We just got out new winch installed and cable put on it yesterday. You might not think that it is much of an accomplishment, but have you ever tried to wind on a cable without a PTO or drive shaft? We did this with an electric drill.

Haven't tried to pull anyone out of a mud hole yet with this method........

Speaking of winches, does anyone have a source to buy that ooey gooey black tar oil that goes on the winch cable? I'm sure it's pretty much restricted. Doesn't look like the healthiest stuff to have just laying around;-)

How long did it take to wind the cable?? Just curious.

Did anyone utter the famous line from Jaws "I think we need a bigger drill???"

It probably took a couple of hours to wind the cable on. Yes, we did need a bigger drill. We kept having to wait for it to cool down every 20 feet or so.

Yes, they are 11.00's. Very observant. The truck belongs to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 920. It was a great buy. The odometer only said 12,000 miles when we got it and the more I work on it, the more I believe that to be the origional milage. It drives like a new one and there is virtually no wear on any of the parts.

The stuff we used is from John Deere. It sprays on as a foam and seems to make rust disappear. It's their chain and cable lube.
