Newbie Mistake

Sorry newbie question for a newbie mistake . I put the rear (closes to the firewall) battery on my m1008 on backwards and obviously fried something. Replaced what I thought to be the bad battery but the truck still won't start and has no voltage. Tried to look for a fuse but can't fine one. Did I fry the starter? Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to start checking the fusible links. The ones behind the rear battery and the links near the master cylinder.

more than likely the one from the 12v side to the diamond shaped 12v terminal near the master cylinder.

Hopefully all that happened is that you burned one or more of the fusible link wires. The TM's are on the site to download. In them you'll find wiring schematics and lots more info on the vehicles. The fusible link wire is a wire that's a smaller gauge than the other "regular" wire that will burn out if something goes wrong.

When you say no voltage are you reading across the batteries with a voltmeter? If you don't have voltmeter you'll need one to start the troubleshooting process. If your voltmeter inside the vehicle is reading nothing. there is a fuse that may also be blown out so there won't be anything at the voltmeter. Again, you'll find the placement shown in the TM's.

The alternator will need rebuilding also.

Just so you don't do that again, get some red electrical tape and put a few wraps around the positive cable. The red tape can be found at the big box DIY stores.

Without some testing of the different components, we are just guessing at this point.

KWA, did you ever get the wiring back to stock? Your post from a year ago indicated that you where having issues then.

Warthog, yes I got those mods done. Glow plug relay, g60 plugs, and a resistor bypass. This site has been awesome for help and ideas.

I will get a voltmeter and check the fusible links. Truck usually just sits waiting for money to work on other issues so I'm in no big rush.
