While I was at it, I figured I might as well start on the 2006 unit. I got the exhaust and manifolds pulled and this one has standing water in the exhaust inlets and I'm not sure what's up with that one rocker bolt. It also looks like one rocker arm was replaced.

This unit was missing the top cover that goes over the engine, so it was probably exposed to the elements for a while. The injectors are pretty rusty looking as well.

Your 2009 looks like it's a runner I wouldn't touch the head on it looks fine to me

You might need a few treatments of evaporust. I buy one of these a year or so. SOOO worth it.

Lay some clay in there like a seal in the corner and fill those things up to the top and let em soak. Suck it out, brush it. Rinse it out with water, and do it one more time. I might even be tempted to then let the second bath leak down past the piston and treat the rings a bit.

With all these engines that have been exposed to water you need to check the cams and lifters. If you have rust spots that have eroded the hardness layer of the cams and lifters you will have trouble ! This also applies to the crankshaft, though not so severe.

I got the 2007 soaking in that stuff since yesterday afternoon. I actually had a gallon of it sitting around. I also put some on the piston tops on the 2009.

I'll check on it this morning and run the brush over the cylinder walls some more, then drain tonight and repeat.

I noticed that the TM 9-2815-252-24 Engine Service Manual references the engine model as DN2M. Here's a shot of the engine plate from the 2009 genset:

Note that it is a DN2W. I guess that just means it is a later revision, right? I wonder if that makes a difference when ordering parts or should I forget about the Onan model number and just order parts for a Lister Petter LPW2?

I just for off the phone with Kraft Power about gaskets, and they quoted me $160.93 each for the gasket set for the LPW2! And that does not include the head gasket! The head gasket is $48.40, and they only have 1 in stock. There's a lead time of 14-16 weeks on ordering additional head gaskets. They come out of U.K.

CDR, where did you order your gaskets from? $80 sounds a lot better than $160+

I took a look at eBay and there's a guy selling the 657-34231 gasket set for ~$52 and the 657-34241 set for ~$68. Not sure if one is more complete than the other? Those prices seem pretty good.

Another guy there is selling aftermarket LPW2 head gaskets for $50. The cross to 752-40751. Think these are any good?

Worked some more on the 2006 this evening. This engine had a repair label on it dated the same year as the whole unit. Maybe it never did work to begin with?

Once I got the rockers off, I realized that this engine has never been fired!

But unfortunately there was standing water in the cylinders and the walls were badly rusted. So I sucked out the water and wiped down the inside. The pistons actually were not rusted but had some sort of black coating on them. At any rate, I filled them both up with evapo-rust as that is working miracles on the other engines already.

The head, while suffering from surface rust like the rest, was also clearly new. The coating on the valves kept surface rust on them to a minimum.

Looks like the fuel pump on this one is brand new

As I was getting the head off, I noticed the engine flexed a lot more than the other 2. One of the rubber mounts was shot. Anyone know of a good place to source these?

A shot of all 3 patients in their current state. There's an old Onan BGA 5KW gas fueled generator in the background on an old trailer. That's my current backup generator until I get one of these 802A's online.

The 2009 came out looking real nice after soaking in evapo-rust for 24 hours.

I then added a little diesel to let it soak in that overnight. Even without using clay, I was getting very little, if any, leak down past the pistons.

The 2007 had been soaking in evapo-rust overnight as well, but it was much worse off than the 2009. At any rate, it is starting to look better. I sucked out the evapo-rust and wiped down the cylinder walls and piston, then added some PB and ATF. I was then able to break the pistons free and turned the engine over a few times. I then wiped everything down again and added some diesel to let it soak in that overnight. Tomorrow night I plan to fill this one up with fresh evapo-rust again.

Looking good :) on the one you plan to retreat. Degrease it before the evaporust. It seems to work better as close to 'pure' as you can get it. So blclean bare steel with rust.

Stuff is liquid miracle juice

Also, I found an outfit in Miami (FG Wilson) that happens to have surplus stock of Lister Petter parts, including gasket sets. Hoping to pick up 3 sets for around $150! They are checking the warehouse now.

The only effect it has on the pistons is a positive one. It loosens up the carbon deposits so they come off easily. Yes, this stuff is amazing. Getting ready to go pick up another gallon of the stuff (which I could get the 5 gallon jugs locally). The 2009 head has been soaking in it since last night. I checked on it this morning and it is already looking amazingly clean. I plan to drop the 2007 head in it this evening to see what I will do with that.
