I would very seriously consider repacking all the bearings.
Before you start have the bearings and races located in case you need them. I would plan on 50% of the total being bad and it would not be a bad idea on changing seals since you are in there.
I'd also pull the boots back on the wheel cylinders and check for moisture there.
If they are moist then the seals are starting to leak in the wheel cylinders.
50 / 50 chance of resealing versus needing new cylinders due to excessive corrosion inside.
It sounds bad but when you've done this you know what you have and you know that it will be safe for several hundred miles when you are finished.
Get the socket for the bearing retaining nuts and I would plan all the locking washers being bad so I would order all 6. They are not too much and if you don't need them now you WILL need them some day.
350 miles one way is 700 miles round trip not counting local driving while you are there.
It is good for peace of mind as well as safety.
Good luck and let us know how things turn out and remember pictures are worth aa thousand words!

It is 350 round trip (or a little less, even) but I take to heart what you're saying. I just don't know that I'm gonna have time. Probably Feb 26th is my last chance to do the trip, and today it's too cold and snowy outside to get anything done. If we get some decent weather I can maybe work on it in the evenings. We'll have to see how it goes.

Just did my fuel filters, easy 30 minutes. Check out your primary filter mine did not match the DRMO. Had to reuse till I find the right one. Hole should around 1/4" not 1" the search begins. I could do it in half the time now.

Note to self no more napa filters.....

Good luck

The oil is probably the least of your worries. Just check the level, if it is very high, chances are there is a fuel leak in the IP.

The Army sampled and analyzed the oil on regular basis, changing only when Army Oil Analysis Program required. As long as the engine has proper pressure, it will be fine.

Now brakes are your FIRST step. On the backing plate, at the 6:00 position, is a notch, about 3/16" wide. This is where brake fluid will be seen if there is a leak. Do not drive if this is wet unless you pull that wheel and repair. And double check ALL the flex hoses.

Check coolant for concentration. Only change if rusty or too weak. Inspect the belts.
