Problems Shifting Transfer Case Hi to Low

Hey 5 ton folks! I contract my 5 ton on fires. I love the truck, however, when working fires I need to shift the transfer case from hi to low about 20x a day (because of the no low reverse thing)

Mine has a whole sh!t load of trouble shifting from hi to low, and can take a lot of fiddling to get it to go, which I can't have when fires are waiting for water!

I'm looking for suggestions and solutions. I've read about all I can on the subject but am looking for people who have fixed this problem and what the solution was!

I've seen things about removing a solenoid, switching air lines, removing a spring, airing down (which also takes too much time when fires are waiting)....

Any suggestions or recommendations that worked for you would be highly appreciated. Fire season is comin in the west!

Just need a DOT union and a DOT termination plug.

Connect the line dash line to the front axle engagement and cap off the pressure protection side supply. This will take the air away from the top of the transfer case that pushes down on the high to low rod.

Thank you for the info! & for the super helpful video. Am I safe in assuming that this will fix the problem only if its shifting easily with the truck aired down? I'll give it a shot with it aired down and if it works better ill do this ! Hopefully it's that easy

I've tried 3 different 3/8 compression fittings... All have a different thread pitch than the factory connectors... same with the caps... I have no clue how that's possible, but it is. I'm just gonna end up cutting the lines and using the DOT 3/8 compression union.. I was hoping to be able to use the factory ends so it's easy enough to put back to stock, but... in this case.... probably best to just put new ends on the lines.


Also, when removing the interlock solenoid (I haven't done it yet), what size/thread pitch is the hole? I'm assuming something standard like 1/2" NPT?
