Hi Guys, I am beginning a road trip on the 17th of November and am going cross country in my M920. I am posting my route in hopes that I can get a roll call of SS members along my route who can assist with a tow or maybe a jump/tools etc that may be available next weekend. Map[FONT=&quot]

You are going by me to the north on I80. I know it is shorter than I70, I can make the same offer if you want to stop in Salina. Not the fanciest resort in town, but we can save you a motel bill. I70 to

On the bright side, take I80 and be sure to stop at the military vehicle museum in Lexington. I really enjoyed my roadside break there. We had lunch in their parking lot when we brought my M1008 home. Glen

That will be a trip you will never forget. I am not on your route, but I can send you take off parts by next day air if you break down. My M916 is parked waiting on SF97. PM me if I can help, I check in here several times a day.

thanks for the replies, Ross, I knew you would be and I may make a pit stop there for sure depending on how my timing is. I appreciate all of the replies and I am trying to drive straight through with my co-driver depending on how we feel. I will keep you all posted and will have a trip report when I get back. Thanks again and keep em coming if anyone else is along my route.

in case you guys are wondering why I am making the bass ackwards trip of going up to TN it is because I purchased a knuckle boom crane from a guy up there and am picking it up on the way back. I am also picking up a sleeper cab in the ne corner of Colorado so I figure I am just killing three birds with one big truck.;);)

I am very near Old Hickory and can lend a hand if you have problems near here. I would count on at least 6 to 7 days drive time. 500 miles a day in that truck will be all you want to do.

Bring plenty of tools and a credit card.

Nah, I am thirty and my brother in law is 24, time is more important than a good nights rest, we can handle the abuse. I predict 3.5 days 4 hr drive shifts 24 hrs on the road.

will you be able to keep us updated through the trip?

Wish you best of luck and drive safe.

Jared
No, I am not bringing my laptop and do not want to go through all of the effort of trying to make it work through my droid so I will do a road trip summary when I get home. I bought tickets for disney on ice for the fam that sunday evening so I have to be home by day 4.

I was young once, too. I drove a '72 Olds 442 from Whidbey Island, WA to Nashville, TN in three days. My butt was so sore after those three days that I didn't want to sit down for days.

For the sake of argument, figure that you aren't going to push the truck by driving with the foot to the firewall and keep the speed at about 50. That will mean that if you and your friend drive 24 hours a day you will AVERAGE about 45 mph (maybe) it will take you AT LEAST 62 hours.

BUT, I am pretty sure you have never tried to drive 2800 miles in a truck with absolutely ZERO creature comforts, not even so much as a radio (and the seats SUCK!!!!!), so I would urge you and your buddy to consider at least one FULL night rest so that you can clear your heads and give your brains and bodies a break.

Yeah, I was hoping to get it a little earlier in the year so I did not have to deal with any pass closures, snow won't stop the 920 on an interstate unless they flat out close it. My only real hurry is that I have a deadline to pick up the sleeper in CO so I have to make it there sometime friday before 9, if I am later then that I can sleep in the truck when we get there and we will loadout sat early and continue. I am bringing a pillow for my a$% so that I can hopefully deal with the seats and such. We will see how it goes, lots of rockstar and sugar to keep the heart going.

I drove my M35A3 from Georgia to Spokane, it was an a$$ breaker. The first day I wanted to go 55 or 60 and that turned out to be impossible, haha. After that I planned on 48-50 and twelve hours a day on the road and it took five days to get home.

My suggestions are as follows. 1. Don't push it, drive a few mph slower for the sake of the equipment. 2. Find an Ipod or Zune with earphones and use it on the open road. 3. Stop for lunch and get a little walking or strech on the fuel stops. 4. Enjoy the scenery, I noticed that you get to enjoy the country a lot more at 48 than 75mph.

I stayed in decent hotels and got a good nights sleep every night, did a good daily every morning, refueled and checked tires then got to driving.

If you are two or three hours from Spokane and lack help, I am just west of town and can bring the deuce out for an assist. PM me for info.

Well Guys, thanks for all of your help and thankfully I did not need it. Special thanks to Ross (reb87) for helping me troubleshoot some problems when I picked the truck up and Soni (M920) for helping me with the transmission (by the way the air tool oil trick worked!! thanks again). I made it home last Sunday morning at 3am. Had it not been for half a day of swearing and spending money I would have been ahead of schedule on my trip. We did drive through the night only stopping once for sleep while waiting for the place that had my crane to open up. Everything went great, the truck does not like to warm up, we had credit cards in hand more than once scraping ice off the inside of the truck. Averaged a little over 6 mpg on the flats and about half that in the pass's. This truck is in way better shape then I thought it would be. I will post some pics in a little bit I am still waking up.

Glad you made it home safely. I thought the M920 would be a back breaker with the 58k Hendrickson RT walking beams but the long wheelbase makes it a much better riding truck than the lighter spring short wheelbase M915 by quite a bit in my opinion. Looking forward to your pictures.

What was the air tool oil trick?

Andy
