Steering gearbox oil level...

All,

I've checked the TM and LO, but I cant find a good answer on which fill plug the box should be filled to. #5 or #10. #5 is the bigger of the 2 fill plugs wich is the same size as the drain plug.

Any thoughts?

Looks like #10 is the fill plug and #5 is the level you go upto

Fill and drain plug are the same size and the capacity is one pint... Nice pix in Ord 9 SNL G742 and TM 9-819

This is from the LO, "U" is the fill plug.

LO 9-2320-209-12-1 says capacity is 3 1/8th pints, and the drawings dont help much..

I would suggest that the capacity is not there for three and a half pints... so... but you sure will know when you drain out the old and pour in the new... I be liking the old books...

After spending a half hour in the TM and LO (Emmando's right) and about as much time under the truck trying to figure this out, I finally searched SS from Google and found this old thread. Once again, the site proves valuable.

I think 5 is the fill plug when it comes out 10 its full.
