Got my truck today and even better she's a runner. I put new batteries in and turned her over for about 2 seconds and she started. She stalled after about ten seconds but started right back up and drove back to my property here in Leesburg, GA (120 miles). No issues other than a class 3 leak on the right side intermediate axle (coming from inside the brake drum, gear oil and not brake fluid). Enjoy the pics, I'll be around here for a while longer now!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Clinto,
I've got some maintenance to perform but if all goes well, there's not much keeping me from the Rally!!!! I plan on doing a good -20 level check this weekend. The leaking axle was easy to identify but it didn't start until sometime in the last 20 miles of the trip. Other than that, the truck is perfect save for some slight rust and some faded tri color CARC sprayed in August of 96. Now I've got to get the ID numbers to CARNAC so I can determine the year of the truck so I can get my insurance cards straight. I took it by an older man's house and he told me that since it's an AM General, there's not much chance of it being a 1970 model!!! He even knew that it was an AM by looking at the grill which was news to me because they all look about the same. I've got alot to learn apparently.

Thanks to all who have unknowingly taught me so much about these trucks through this forum and a big thanks to JWARD1 for offering his help close to my pickup site. I called him and let him know that while everything went well, I still appreciate what a great group of people are on this site. Now that I've got my truck, I'm in the brotherhood and my friend who helped me pick my truck up today is after and 800 series wrecker now. Only way to spread the hobby is to show it and provide a good example!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all on here!!!!!1

Divemaster920,
I've finally figured out what I'm going to do with this truck!!! I love to tinker around as a mechanic and walking through the parts store today it finally hit me. I'll never have this truck perfect so I'll always have an excuse to want to do something else to it. I'm still at the basics of this project so I ordered oil and fuel filters and bought a few gallons of 15W40 Rotella T. All of my other cars run great so now I have something to work on. The truck itself runs great. It has shocked me with how I used to drive them though. I used to run them as fast as they could but I have learned that they really are alot happier going 35 to 40 mph. rather than just going wide open. I guess that the engine detonation threads have made me rethink running on the governer all the time!!!!! My plans include some hay rides for my church, a muffler, tighten some squeaks and rattles, a spray in bedliner, and a new tri color paint job. Save for all of the maintenance checks and repairs along the way. Thanks to all who have introduced me the this hobby and God Bless America that we can all have such a fantastic piece of machinery for ourselves!!!!!!!!!

NAPA could only order 1 secondary fuel filter!!! Did Wix quit making them or is my part's house only pulling from their own stock? I know it takes two. My question is do I replace the one towards the front bumper or the one towards the tailgate first since I only have one Secondary on the way??? Please advise and or post me a link to the other secondary fuel filter that I need. They drain clear but there is no telling when they were last changed or what crud might be in them now..

Update,
It now has a GA tag. For those who wish to register an MV in GA, you will encounter very few problems. The first thing you need is a form from the tag office so that a deputy from the sheriff's office can record your VIN information. This took the officer about 5 phone calls as to whether he could use the ID number on the data plate. He of course used the serial number and the registration number off the data plate to get a 17 digit VIN which of course is incorrect. I tried to explain but didn't want to argue too much as I know I needed a tag. Next, make sure you've got the info correct on your insurance cards. Insuring the truck with only the invoice, I had mistakenly id'd it as a 1970 AM General truck and used a weird number off the GL Invoice as the VIN. I got that corrected. Now the Georgia DMV has a great system for tracking VIN numbers but does not recognize a VIN that is made up incorrectly or has never been in the system so you've got some smooth talking to do with the person at the tag office. Then there is the describing of the vehicle so that it will allow you to put the correct name and nomenclature in. Luckily, the lady I was working with had nearly melted a gasket at this point and let me look at the screen and choose what I wanted the truck registered as. I chose AM General, Mulitpurpose Vehicle and got to enter M35A2 as there was no other way to describe it and we had to do a manual entry. Now my tag receipt reads AMGR M35A2 MP with a valuation of $400. Good thing on the low valuation, my tag will only cost $32 this year when it's time to renew. While checking all the numbers, I got some good news though, the motor was manufactured in Feb. of 1990!!!!!!!!!! I was looking around trying to establish the year it was built but settled on 1971 due to the registration number. In all, it took about 4 hours, 20 phone calls and one very mad lady at the tag office. I even got one of those Hobby / Antique Vehicle tags with the picture of the Model T on it!!!! I still don't have a title to the truck but, I'm street legal and since I have no plans of selling it, a title will never cross my mind!!!

LTWVARNG,
GL on the October 7th Auction. Sale was 4737 and there were 3 M35A2's, 1 was a winch truck. They have about 10 waiting to be inprocessed and sold when I previewed my truck and they were still there when I picked mine up. A few still had good batteries and started when I did my pickup. I think the building number was 1220 but the lot is off of Nighthawk Street in the supply support area yard. Top of the hill, make a left, around the corner and to the right, make another left and you're there!!!!! I wish you good luck if you decide to bid on one, they have some nice trucks waiting for a new home.
