Tires for M1009

Mine will get 33's when I upgrade the suspension. The devil is telling me Baja Claw's will look sinister on black 15x10's, the angel is telling me it'll still look good and will ride much better with All Terrain TA's on the same wheels. I'm not sure who will win that one, but I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome.

I seen that they still sell the 31s but quit selling the 33" tires.

Im about to buy some brand new never mounted 33" tires from a buddy 5-for $500 I havent seen the yet and dont really know what kind. I believe the name is Desert Dawgs or something?

Then I will get rid of the Good Year silient armors I have now. There 31x10.5x15 made in 2005 good cond. There mounted on 10" wide 15" rims a little too narrow for that rim.

Many differing opions here. With tire branding that is no surprise. Funny nobody mentioed Goodyear Wrangler AT/S? Is that not the tire that the military ran on the CUCV's?

Secondly, seems that most rave over BFG TA/KO 33's. Want to keep mine stock elevation. Any clearance problems offroad with the 33's on stock M1009's? Your input would be greatly appreciated. My tires are starting to check pretty bad. Need to replace pronto. Thanks

Don 32 11.50 15 will work best with the stock elevation.

CJ Yokohama Geolandar AT/S is the best bang for the buck according to consumer reports and myself as I have a set in the stock size. They are 50K mike rated, are quiet, and have great on and off road traction.

are made with Kevlar, does that make them bullet proof at all?

Kevlar is in the tread belts for extra rigidity and puncture resistance. They are not bullet proof. J.

And I know they use Kevlar to make bullet proof vests.

Mine came from the Army with Prime well PA100's they seem to run quit on the road, my truck shows 81db's at 65 mph.

33's may rub your fenders a bit. This is what 32's look like. See how close to the front fender they are when the wheels are straight then picture it in an articulated turn. Now picture 33's.

Tires for my M1009

Ok, Thanks for letting me on the site to start with.
I just got a really nice M1009, it has the Goodyear silent armor tires. Im probly going to put something more agressive on it in the near future. I will see how these do first though.
My question is , can you still get the Goodyear wrangler RT II,s with the tread like the HUMVEE tires only in the stock 15". I know Goodyear used to make them but I cant find them now. Also I never ran them on anything so would any of you recomend them if they can be found.
I going to use the truck alot, Im giving my son my F150 to go to college with so this is going to be my hunting/ all the time rig now. I guess you could say Dad's gonna play!
I will try to figure out how to get a pic of it on here, I have one on my email can you tell me how to put it on here? Im not to good with computers.
Also I think I want to stick with the 31" tires for the power and MPG'S. My Dad had a civi 6.2 half ton pickup he bought new it was a 83 model and if I remember right it would get over 20 MPG all the time and was a really tough truck. He had it for over 15 years and 200000+ miles. I think it had 3.42 gears, I could be wrong but any way with the stock 10.50 size tires it was an AWESOME truck on the farm!!!

12 -15 bias ply tires on M1009?

I just bought 2 sets of good used 12.00 -15 bias ply tires for my M1009. They are the old Frontier Traction brand tires. Real aggressive mud tread. They were real popular in my area in the late 1970's through the 80's. They have been stored right so they look good. My question is has anyone here run that kind or something like them on a stock M1009 with no lift and how did they do. I got them for $20 each, I hope I didnt make a mistake!!

I hope they clear ok, they are the old 12-15 so I dont think they are that tall just a little wider than the stock 31/10.50s. I hav'nt gotten them home yet, they are in my nieghbors barn loft and we didnt get them down yet. He also had a set of factory wheels Im going to take with them and mount them on so I can run the stock radials or these.

Another vote for General grabber AT2's I am very impressed with their performance in wet and snow. The best A/T tire I have owned and the price was better than the competition when I bought them years ago.

I have Bf Goodrich At Ko with 31x10.50x15 and they do really well but like with all all terrains they do have their weaknesses which is mud. The BF all terrains do have a slight roar but is a good all around tire. I honestly would love if they made one in a 31x12.50x15. The tire makes for better traction by having a wider foot print to propel the truck. Now the only tire I found in a 31x12.50x15 is in a Super Swamper SSR, and I know a guy who has a set in 33s and they are great as well with good road manners and last good on the highway

That is highly debatable- (wider tire is better)...

Wider means more friction and therefore power loss, meaning more fuel spent driving. Also, there is increased floatation, but not always traction, esp in the mud. You don't sink to the bottom and get traction, you just sit on top and spin.

I had the BFG TA-KOs and they were quite loud for an AT tire. I now have GoodYear Duratracs and they are awesome so far. They have been in mud, loose dirt/gravel, and I am waiting for the snow...
They do pick up a lot of rocks though...
