Towing LMTV via Ibis bar

Question is could a competent welder reinforce the Ibis bar to avoid the failures. If so....... what areas need reinforcement? Maybe add a safety chain so if it came apart all it could do is run into your own Arse?

Standard practice is to always use a safety chain when using a tow bar! Also if there is a way to remotely apply the brakes in the towed truck you should do that too.

when towing an FMTV there is glad hands for towing brakes. Agree on appropriately sized Safety chain(s)/strap(s) . Not sure if the Ibis came with them but most assuredly if not; should be added.

So that solved main question is where is the weaknesses and could they be reinforced.

Guys there is absolutely nothing wrong with these tow bars we've towed two or three 5 tons long and short haul.
two lmtvs long haul.
And I would have no reservations about towing the hemtt with it.

Problem with the Ibis tek is that there are 3 different models. Early generation (that was recalled), light duty, and the latest 44k or 48k. Every snapped bar I've seen was a light duty being used to haul 5 ton trucks which is way over it's weight rating. If you are worried about using the latest generation model, use it with the legs collapsed inside the tubes. Can't turn as tight but still able to navigate traffic fine.
