i would think that perhaps the failure of these brngs is condensation related since they are at the top??
I think it has to do with little lubrication and high speeds. The bearings also have a shield on one side and they are on the input shaft facing opposite directions. Meaning that the open face of the bearings are facing each other and oil has to be forced in through small holes on the input shaft (less lubrication on these bearings). Its hard to explain if you never seen the inside of the case.

Does anybody know how much play (in and out) there is supposed to be on the input shaft? Before I put some new bearings on my input shaft in my truck, the input shaft would move in and out under load (not up and down). I never quite understood why the helical gears on the input shaft would not be supported with tapered bearings instead of regular ball bearings. It seems like these would be better... but then again, i didnt not design it and there must be a reason. I think i still have some movement in and out on the input shaft but not as much before. The original reason for me taking my transfer case apart was bearing failure on the inputshaft low range gear.

i checked on just the BL210Z and list is $185.44, auto parts store has them for $100, my brng supplier has them for $37.06. this is for one bearing.

Do you know where the bearings are manufactured? I'll only purchase bearings made in USA if I can help it. Better quality and will last longer. I found some for $44 but they were made in China.
