Glad you made it through ok... sounds like it was quite the ride.

I would recommend finding a residue truck with a good chassis/body from GL and swap all of your good pieces over to it. I rebuilt my 1009 from an engineless hulk and a wreck with a good engine. Plus, if it went over, your axles may be slightly tweaked, springs overstressed, etc that you can't see right now but would be obvious on a straight chassis once you started driving it. You might even get enough parts left over between the two to cover the cost of the replacement.

Polish out...

Yea I'm not concerned about the dents....lol.

I guess since I'm gonna have the body off I might as well get a Polyurethane bushing set?

LMC has a set for $129 + shipping...

Any comments?

My rubber ones seem ok.....

Thinking over my project (removing cab) I'm thinking my garage might not be tall enuff....

Removing the Cab from the frame may require some tinkering like..... removing the tires so the frame will sit lower to the ground. Maybe use some moving dollies on the rear axle so it will clear the frame?

Havn't figured out for sure how I'm gonna lift the body..... It will be easy to support the overhead beams with 2x4s...

Small details that need to be figured out.

I do have a nice tree outside, that would support the cab. I'd have to snowblow 2 foot of snow outta the way (No problem) That might be my best option.

Sound like the snow blower idea is a good one, you could also use a pulley hooked to the tree, hooked to another vehicle with cable. Drive forward to raise the cab, roll frame out from underneath and back a trailer under it and set it down....ready to be scrapped:-D

Cut top off....

OK I will post pictures another time... But I cut the top off. I wanted to get an idea of how bad my body really was after I removed the fiberglass topper and the cab. I figured that would release some spring....maybe it would magically snap back in alignment!

Well It was fun driving around without the top... VERY fun even, at 25 degrees!
HMMM DO really want a top....? Winters are to brutal... If I lived in the south I'd put a roll cage in.... and figure out some kinda soft top.

Well the left rear was almo5 inches higher than the right rear... as someone had pointed out...looks like I broke a spring! Well I didn't see at first glance, but the spring on the right wasn't as springy as the left. Useing a tape measure It was obvious the spring was tired. When I picked up the Blazer looked like the spring were well used. Look at my Avatar to the left..... Looks a little saggy I think.

What do replacement springs cost? I have a parts Blazer I might use first, then when I recover from this $$$ loss... get new ones.

I put my floor jack on the rear spring shackle and jacked it up till both sides were the same. Things looked alot better... not as bent up as I thought at first!

Anybody have a link to changing the springs?

i would straighten it up best you can and use it to push snow, haul wood, hunt, fish or just to abuse and save the next one for easier stuff. its payed for so it aint costiing anything. if anything teach them youngens to drive in it. they will love that.

You might check with Warthog he has a parts truck that you could pull your engine and trans and transfer it to that chassis and have a new truck !! His M1009 motor is not running and the transmission is gone would be a good truck to do as a rebuild !! The body is straight on it he got it from Ft Riley several weeks ago !! Give Warthog a hollar he might be able to set you up !!

As has been said before. Get a truck with a dead engine..... Put your good bits on it. Driving a truck with a compromised frame should be left to civvies with a big insurance policy, and a desire to appear in the Darwin Awards.

Just a follow up. I did put it back together and drove it until 2019. I would not recommend fixing it, for safety sake. The repair would have never held up in another roll over. RUSTED floor boards finally destroyed her. I got 9 winters in Iowa outta her. I did get another M-1009 and am spraying OIL on everything I can to try and prevent rust destruction.

As others have mentioned..(Advised ), Go for another cheap straight truck..Make a good one out of the two.
'Things' not immediately seen?..Not safe.
But, good luck with the eventual restore yourself a truck, And, Keep posting on progress.

I am glad your OK after that and I totally agree with the other comments its just a vehicle and it can be repaired with a little effort, the important piece made out out OK!!!
