I'm not sure how many of you have actually ever used an 8N mines a 9N and its basically worthless for pulling things. In wet grass it can't even move my mudder on flat ground and it does have loaded tires. Trouble is they didn't have an option for a differential lock. I'm actually going to be selling it shortly and buying a larger tractor with a loader. something like a Ford 4000 or John Deere 2020, 3020, etc.
My TO30 is about the same as a 9n i do have a 3 speed Sherman, no dif nock, but selective use of the brake pedals can remedy that. I will say that i had a rim get pretty ruined and beign the tractor isnt much good powerwise for anything didnt want to spend the money for a new rim, tire, tube etc so i cut a 4" square hole in the tire, pulled the tube out, and mixed up concrete to pour in it. i filled the tires up solid with concrete so i have a little more weight. About 10 bags a wheel so 800lb a wheel. Not really much more than ballasted wheels though. I've found it pretty useful for pulling some things out, but the farmall or bobcat is far better. You mudder probably will pull better than that tractor though.

Oh yeah, the mud truck has 4.88:1 gears, 350 chevy engine, weights <> 5,700, and even pulled the duece the first time it was stuck "in wet grass" at idle. Didn't realize the front drive air line was pinched shut so no 6x6.

Its been a blast on trail rides with no lack of power for any situation, but the bad news is its been a trail truck for over 10 years and the last 3-4 I haven't been doing much work on it since my wife had a few babies and I've been playing with them. So at this point it barely stays running, the front drive chain is slipping, and I'm surprised the cab hasn't fell off during me tugging on the duece because its pretty loose :)

I think for my next project I'm gonna rebuild it into a rail buggy or maybe pick up a new truck body to drop all the goodies in because i really hate wasting all those cool 4x4 parts.

My 9N runs great, but the brakes need adjusted and I haven't bothered because I have pretty flat ground and don't use the brakes much. Would be nice for working the differential, but my fix is gonna be a newer tractor.

Well the biggest thing I need is about a dozen cases of hours depending on how many are in the case. I need the eastern standard size.
Other than that I'm pretty good for now. I got enough parts with that deal so that I can redo all the axle seals and bearings if need be, and do brakes on 2 axles.
I just have to bleed the brakes, I'm waiting on one of those reservoir kits I just ordered from here. I also have to reconnect the park cable with the new one.
I got some steel plate and frame pieces to extend the front bumper. (eventually I want to get a nicer one, my welding job kinda sucks) And when I pull the wheels to check everything, I gotta get a couple of boots, that's about the only seals I didn't get.

I gotta get the honeydew list done before I get to come out and play most of the time.:evil:

#2. If you have any source of air let almost all the air out of the tires. Low pressure = more tire on the ground.

Anyone around you have an H2 or H3? Don't laugh, I had an H3 and used to make mounds of $$ pulling people out of the sand dunes at San Luis Pass.

An H3 is a Tahoe with a different body, nothing more or less. It ain't gonna touch that deuce! Letting air out of the tires now is just going to set the differentials tighter on the ground. If you are going to let air out I would pull forward a little, let some out, pull forward a little, let some out. That way you are already in the grooves cut before by the diffs. I really think at this point you need to leave the tires up and get a bigger truck to pull with. The tractor just does not have the weight but there is a trick you can use but you have to be careful. Attach you strap high up on the tractor, at the three point attachment if you have that on the 9. That will pull down on the tires but will also tend to rotate the tractor up in front so be careful not to flip!

Actually an H3 is a Colorado based truck. The H2 is a Tahoe based truck.

I still think the 9n will pull more than either the h2 or h3. You can have all the power in the world, traction is the limiting factor. Those balasted 9n ag tires strapped higher on the 3pt as mentioned will transfer all weight to the wheels and lift the front end, which i why i would suggest strapping the yota to the front of it. the combintaion would pull that out for sure.
