Snow bogging today! I thought I was stuck on first round. Got it out and then made a video in a safer area....

Tried to just post a link... If videos not allowed please remove. I just quickly read through the rules and did not see it not being allowed. I just usually see links.. Thanks.

Didn't do it this week, but over Christmas I added a Haldex A72420-style alcohol evaporator on my '52 so I can fire her up for some enjoyable "refreshing" (she's a no heater truck) below-freezing drives without any frozen air line issues in-between snows and whenever there is no "Truck Destroyer, Granular" residue on the roads. Simple and effective for my usage.

Best place I found to mount it, since I had already removed the unneeded tool rack, was directly above the spare tire. Good location right near the air tanks. Short lines to plumb it in, protected nicely by the spare and has easy access for fill/maintenance.

No chains. Just wanted to see what she'd do. Before the video I went further in and thought I was stuck in about 4' of packed snow. I did not really want to deal with going to get equipment to get out. Now to compare with chains... I think chained up it will go about anywhere, So far it has gone everywhere I have tried without chains. I will just have to make a good extraction plan for when I get stuck even further away from help.

Your truck moves quite well with the lockers in the rear. It seems to make a difference. I would not trust my open diff truck to follow you! How much traction comes from the lockers vs. the big tires?

I took my 5 ton out and tried to go up a steep bank coming out of the creek and it did not even get close. The Deuce crawled right up it. The lockers plus the good rubber doubles the capability.

G'day everyone,......

Without wanting to sound like I'm being pedantic here but none of the traction comes from the lockers.

It ALL comes from the tires.

All the lockers do is stop any wheel that has lost traction from spinning allowing any energy to be directed through the path of least resistance.

This then lets the other wheel to keep driving without any loss of drive as that energy is still directed to it.

Aussie.

I found a decent Jerry can with a 1951 date code. Cleaned it up and gave it a decent coat of Strata blue. Mounted the freshly painted can mount and the new strap and then finally put the can in place. One more piece to the puzzle! It really makes me want to paint the whole truck. I also got the door info stencils ordered.

Got a lead on some firewood from a friend (pictured in his selfie) who was clearing fence-rows with an excavator.
I immediately loaded up the skid steer and ended up bringing 4 heavy dump trailer loads of logs home last weekend. For being basically stock, Daisy was definitely working (confidently at least) to get up to speed on the slushy roads. I also want to further update that my front locker was probably the best money I ever spent on the truck. Drove on the unplowed back roads in 6x6 and disengaged the transfer right before turning onto the open black-top. The front axle unlocks nearly as soon as the transfer does.

I would've brought more wood home but the hassle of doing a serious wash job in the snow at the end of each day got old very quickly. While not a show truck, the thought of the small amount of salt on my truck staying there for more than half a day disgusted me.20210103_144817.jpgScreenshot_20210115-064718_Facebook.jpg20210103_123238.jpg

Flipped the rear hubs, replaced 3 bad wheel cylinders, serviced hubs, changed milky axle fluid. Bought 12.00-20 tires will be swapping those on next week.

@Aussie Bloke Yes, I do understand that traction comes from the tires interacting with the ground, ultimately. My question was intended to explore how much effect the larger/coarse treaded/heavier tires had by themselves (by grabbing the ground and not needing a locker) versus the locker preventing one-sided wheel spin and enabling the truck to move. I should have stated it more clearly.
