well..yes and no.. Orlando Allison's shop rate is $168.. Daytona Ring Power $125. Orlando Allison is busy for sure but their shop area looks like a bomb hit it... Daytona's bays were all full from huuuge CAT Dozers Prevost motor homes to a members busted LMTV...they even have a Oshkosh 6x6 MV tanker truck in there belonging to a local FD...with a repair bill approaching $50k...but thier shop area was neat as a pin... just a better feeling with Daytona ....

Wish I had my shop built. I'm on a waiting list till sometime next year to get the thing started.

Otherwise I'd be interested in going through it to see how tough it is to rebuild. I've done plenty of old school turbohydromatics. Other than being a lot bigger I can't imagine that is any more challenging.
I used to cover the phones at my business partner's trans shop. On busy days I would help with the occasional tear down. From what I've see in the 34 TM there's nothing that jumps out as special to do a rebuild.

I have a pretty sharp '94 that had gone back thru BAE around '08 or so. I got it as a parts truck but it has a strong engine and only needs a trans rebuild. Not sure if I will try to save it or not. I've never found a source for the kit for both trans and t-case.

Of course I don't really have a place to pull the trans much less bench the tear down. Else I think I['d give it a go and save the truck...

Somehow, I imagine that if you had a dry space to work - you would find a way.
You would need a heck of a bench to work on the transmission. Maybe even several workbenches!

Guess if a guy or girl had a few bucks they could be the proud owner of a 1994 truck ;-)

I got a M1082 next to the driveway, one IN the driveway, next to my M1079. And it's a pretty step driveway (going to be interesting doing my entire hab build on an incline, lol).

The M1078 was on the street for 9 months until it got green tagged by the city (I'd have liked to see them try and tow it, hehe). Seems it's a no-no to park over a 1-ton on a city street here. It's over at a boat storage lot currently, but I'm wearing out my welcome.

I really don't have the room to be doing this stuff. LOL

Yeah, I may toss an ad up to see if anyone in S.Tx wants it intact. I got it to pull the fuel tank, cab air ride assembly (I'm not a huge fan of the A1R solid mount cab and I was looking at several options from shocks to a custom cab air ride system), and a few other bits for my build. I was gonna part the rest. Then it started right up with some fresh fuel, filters, and a couple lines replaced.

UPDATE:

The truck is complete....the mystery noise of doom was indeed lurking inside the transmission/transfer case..whereabouts unknown..
Truck was driven 20+ miles as a "shake down"...all went well.. the combination of a retran and Transynd made a huge difference in the smoothness of up/down shifts. Only mild downside was the tranny fluid was a bit low...

Someone mentioned somewhere that the Wtec2 transmission has to be put in a "learn mode " ?????


and the total OTD cost was a $3900.

this includes the retran install, Transynd oil "upgrade", 4 Spicer U joint, driveshaft balancing,oil/fuel/transmission filters , fuel water separator, 15w-40 engine oil.. and of course the State of Florida for thier cut in taxes/environmental fees of $448.00..bassss-turds..

overall I'm quite pleased...but time will tell

and an even bigger thanks to Kyle 1 and Kyle 2 of Daytona CAT/RingPower for getting this entire job done in 3 casual days..

they are not an Allison service/dealer... and considering how busy they are and the fact I've dumped close to $15k into the truck, it's not wise for either of us.. But, based in the bearing fragments I showed them, they believe the C6 thrust bearing grenaded (very common) and the clutch pack output shaft was play molecule bouncing off the clutch housing..but without pulling the housing off, only the Almighty will know. But when the tranny is shipped back to MTP for my "core" refund, I'll ask them to contact me upon rebuild and tell me what blew up..20210827_181441.jpg

No where near a big project, but finally was able to squeeze some time to change the engine and transmission oil, filters, and the fuel filters Monday. It was its first change since I got the truck so I was half expecting some sort of ugly to show it’s face, but luckily everything was normal. The pictures were of the transmission plugs and oil. I chose to stick with the 15w40 in the trans for the simple reason that for as much the truck will actually be in use, It didn’t seem worth the expense and effort to flush it out to atf. I used Mobil delvac 1300 for everything. I’ve used it previously in farm equipment and the deuce with no issues, so I’ll stick with it. Also I swapped out the water separator filter to the r45t with a 10 micron rating from the 30 micron of the r45p. Everything went so well I had some free time to finish the front porch rock project.

It really is nice for a project to be easy or easier than expected!
I like your drain pan. It looks big enough to catch everything all at once.

I'm with you on the same weight of oil in the motor and transmission. No need to change it out because it was happy when it was working for the Army. I read a lot of horror stories where "everything was fine until I swapped". That 10 micron will work well if you keep it changed regularly.

Porch project looks good too!
