Mechanical Booster Pump "making oil"

Would this booster pump seal be in the injection pump gasket and o-ring kits that are available? I have a kit but I do not remember seeing the seal in the kit, but maybe it is/was?

Looks like I may be doing this to my truck very soon. Its almost tempting to just stick a whole new IP on and call it a day.
That would be a toss up what would be faster and easer. Myself I would pull the IP and replace the seal in boost pump and oil to IP feed line.
Thanks for the write up though.

Actually in my case it turned out my ip needed rebuilt anyway. Governor weight broke off.

As far as what's faster. Swapping injector pumps is probably faster if you had one on hand or a local rebuilder. Is it cheaper? Absolutely not!

Do believe you can also check for fuel in the IP by removing the rear most bottom plug out of the IP and see if it is draining out fuel.

I think if you pull that plug out and had the engine running, you would be draining your oil out too as it the oil pressure line would keep pumping oil to the injection pump.

Yea got to do it with the engine shut down but the IP has a belly and believe you can check the boost pump for leaks with the intank running.

I was able to diagnose my MBP leak by running the in-tank pump.

This site is amazing! I was work through my diesel-oil problems using the guidance and information in this and another thread. You guys rock!

My in-tank pump was DOA, so I purchased one of the $50 surplus replacements on a certain web auction site. The new pump was amazing! LOTS of pressure. I found out after an hour drive that maybe it was TOO good because I had made two gallons of oil. I figured out that it was the FDC or the HH; no leaks from either. When I "removed" the two bolts securing the MBP and let it slip out of the housing a little ways diesel-oil mix started spilling out. When I turned on the in-tank pump fuel started pumping out.

[Sigh] Now I gotta figure out how to make space by jacking up the engine.

All for a little o-ring...

not an 'o' ring, it is a seal. remove the 2 front motor bolts and the LR mount bolt and push the front of the engine to the right, it will come out.

Okay. In previous comments it sounded like it was an o-ring seal. I haven't had a chance to take apart the MBP, so I have not idea what it looks like. Thanks for the heads up. I won't be looking for an o-ring.

I had no trouble getting the motor lifted and the MBP removed. Tomorrow I will order the repair kit.

Anyone happen to remember which TM describes disassembly of the MBP?
