Series 18 Winches

I am considering adding a winch to my truck(s) .
I grabbed a couple of MRAP take offs from GL Hooks Texas
a week ago or so, I await their arrival to see if I bought trash
or if I did OK.

The documentation for these from Warn is slim. I was able to
dig up some good info. VERIFY ALL / (read my sig line, 1st sentence!)

The proper fairlead is a Warn #75535

If anyone has any proper fairleads for these beasts I might need a couple of them.

The nut that holds on your spare tire is NOT the same OD size as a lug nut.
This could be a rude awakening on the side of the road so I decided to
fix it. A little CAD drawing, cut a sleeve out of .75" steel w/ the water jet
and TIG it together into a proper sized nut! One less thing to do on the
side of the road is a GOOD thing. One less tool, several less moves...

M915 m916 upgraded alternator kits 400 cummins

I FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL OF M915/M916/ to M920 ALTERNATOR / GENERATOR / REGULATOR Kits!

...AND I HAVE 2 COMPLETE* KITS TO SELL.

Some time ago in this thread there was talk of getting enough power
to run a 24V Air Conditioner and how to do it. There was never a
really good way to do it, well, I kept at it and I eluded to what
that system was some time ago in this thread. I kept my mouth
shut because I didn't want the world searching for a system I
found that was DESIGNED specifically for the M915 Series of trucks
w/ the 400 Big Cam. (theoretically this should work for any 400 Big Cam).

The following came form VERY reliable sources, VERY.

In Desert Storm they up fit these trucks w/ armor, it was too hot
so the DOD gave Red Dot 6 weeks to make an A/C kit. Well, as
I understand it, they assumed there was enough 24V power to
push this set up and there was NOT! So many trucks BURNED.
Literally burned to the ground. Ask SS member NDT about this.

They figured out the stock alternator was not putting out enough
Amps on the 24V side of things so the DOD gave their contractor 6 weeks
to come up w/ a resolve. That resolve is a Bigger Alternator and a way
Different Regulator w/ LED Diagnostic lights and a bracket for the
regulator and some small parts to make it all work. It is a kit
that you can NOT buy ANYWHERE...till now ;-) And I only have 2 to sell.
I looked high and low for the kit for MONTHS, or just the alternator
and just the regulator, months I looked because I can not afford just
south of $4000.00 for new parts.

The kits are no longer made. You can buy the Alternator and Regulator
from a retailer, get out your wallet, about $3400.00 plus ride but
still you do not have the bracket for the regulator or the instructions.
You do NOT just remove the old Alt and add a new Alt and reg. There is
a minor wire job required as well to make it work.

So I finally had found the LAST KIT known to man about a year ago or
so and we negotiated a price of $1500.00 + ride from Florida, for
just the Alt and regulator, no bracket, no instructions which you HAVE
to have and no smalls.

I asked for pictures to make sure of things and 2 days later they wrote me
and told me it was damaged. My heart broke. We assume some rummy DROPPED
it. I asked for detailed pictures and I surmised that I could repair the unit.
So we renegotiated a price and I got the two parts, just the regulator
and Alternator, and I was able to fix it after months of
research and waiting for parts. It is installed and works perfectly
today.

Still there was no regulator bracket, I HAVE THOSE FOR SALE ALONE.
I designed one from the original plans and made it perfect, AutoCAD
and waterjet cut they are.

I have two new bolt in FACTORY Upgrade M915/M916 TO M920 / 400 Cummins Alt Kits FOR SALE,
the regulator brackets are not mine, they are ORIGINAL too, for sale
here first to SS folks following this thread.

Please do not ask for a deal, friend or not.
I can't do it.
Generous Offers Considered.

Here is what I have PLUS the small parts! I can't believe I have these!

You get the Alternator, Regulator w/ LED Diagnostic lights, Regulator Bracket,
wire, smalls, instructions, it is a complete KIT! Here is the kit installed
on my truck.

alt-up-2.jpg
*I have not inventoried the kits I have yet. I opened one
and was floored when I saw all the tiny parts and instructions + but I think I
figured out a guy needs to make a short feed wire to distribute
the power properly. If you look at my install you see a, I think
it is a #4 red wire that splits to the 2 smaller red feed wires for
the truck, you will need to make that unless I find it in the kits.

You have a big huge truck and a dinky electric horn? What's up with that?

Kidding - MT.

I know...it's kinda funny looking... On the roof are two large
Air blaster trumpets that are less than "scary" IMO as well.

I have an extra 5 Ton horn that I plan on mounting to the
right front fender using the electric horn circuit to blow it.I
It is amazing how STUIPD so many people
are. They merge and see this truck and SLOW DOWN
to look and become a hazard...or they just do not look!

That should wakem up...

M916 Driver Side 5 Ton Box

The PS was done, now I have the DS done.

Yes I will sell the brackets. They are made from
.5" thick steel, there are 4 pieces, no they can
not be cut cheap. I have to price each time but
expect $255 per side approx., plus ride.

No welding to frame required.
No drilling of frame required.

THANK U NDT!

I put a couple hundred miles on it yesterday, w/ A/C blowing away! :)

Shoot, $255 is a good price:

- It'd cost a whole lot more of time and trouble to go ahead and try to fabricate all that by yourself. It's a great item.

Months ago when I went to Arizona I stopped at a Holiday Inn
for the evening and when I came out in the morning I found
both of my nice, new, round, green, convex rear view mirrors were
ripped off my truck, literally, ripped off. The scumbags bent the
"L" brackets back and forth a hundred times till they broke...

Karma WILL get them, and bad too.

I need new convex mirrors.

Any suggestions, anyone add them and find a great combo?

I removed the convex mirrors on my M923 in favor of combined units. The original convex mirrors are just sitting in a box collecting dust. Your welcome to them for the cost of shipping, but GA to CA might be kinda high. It's up to you but the offer stands.

The mirrors aren't scratched but one is slightly dented on the back and could use a new coat of paint. They have the bar clamps still on them which would remedy your tabs that were ripped off. They also hold their position after you've adjusted them.

Just let me know and they're yours...

On edit: Dug them out and neither one is dented. Just looked like it where the paint was peeling. Both just need to be painted. They'll fit medium flat rate for ~$12.

M916 Hemtt Seat Swap

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

This time I won. GL had Hemtt, Air Ride, High Back,
Green, fabric seats for sale w/ 4 point safety belts
out of GL OKC I do believe it was.

I bid thinking I was bidding on just 2 seats. Fast forward and
They have been sitting for a couple mouths till I was
ready to get to and do the deeds. Today was day one on this
upgrade to just the M916 for now.

We opened the box and what do I see? I see TWO, BRAND NEW, Air
Ride, High back, Green Fabric seats staring at me! They were listed as
one seat per box, so I got two boxes! Whoopie! I win this
time. They also have 4 Point Seat belts too, all brandy new!

SWEET!

So my first victim is my M916. We pulled the OEM seat and
stuffed the new unit in for fitment and find they are too tall, as in
the seat height itself is too high in relation to the steering wheel.

Looks like we are going to delete the cheesy, adjustable forward/back
sliding runners to gain an inch or so, and looks like I will cut a reveal
the OE sheet metal pedestal in two places on the top of the DS OE seat pedestal
so I can recess some seat parts gaining another .75" or so. This should
get things into position so the average joe will not b|tch about no
forward to back sliders.

I really want to try to keep my under seat storage and
make sure the swap looks store bought when done.

Pics Coming, till then this is what I saw when I opened one box!

Yes, my associates in OKC do a GREAT job at picking up my
goods and respectfully retrieving my goods and packaging them
properly as well, for shipment to me in So Calif. Kinda like as
other First Class SS men have done for me in other locales
across this nation we stand tall for.

Some people actually do care and follow
my own business model which is; " I will do it the same
way I would do it if I owned the same property or I
will NOT do it
." PERIOD.

I'm not sure if I said it in the past but I thought I bought 2 seats,
ends up I bought four... :)

So were gonna do things up right here. I got the DS seat all done and proper
and I started to look at the PS seat. Well, things were looking really weak so
we did some calculations and we found that the seat pedestal on the PS was
2" taller than the DS and as things are, you can't use the adjustable sliders
because they make things too tall. So realizing the PS seat has no reason to
slide forwards and backwards we just axe'd those parts but still, the PS seat
pedestal is 12" tall and the DS seat pedestal is 10" tall. I was able to make
the 10" tall pedestal work A-OK less adjustable sliders so the only way we
can make the PS seat work correctly is to chop the PS seat pedestal 2" lower
to equal the DS.

I did the calculations, I pulled the PS seat and it's pedestal and I laid out
my thoughts and CUT the pedestal. Stay tuned for the final outcome, it
really is dramatic. Till then..................

Here is a picture of the DS pedestal post massaging. Drill two holes and
cutting in two rectangles to lower the seat proved to work quite well.
