I have a Snapon broken stud removal kit that kinda look like that. It works like a charm! It a great idea!

So the threaded part snaps on the GP, and then the outer part threads on, pulling out said GP?

Just an update on this thread. I just came up with a crazy idea. I'm going to use the control box and the generator head and make a 3point skid to hook up to the back of my tractor.

How will you get it to 1,800 RPM? Belt drive from the PTO?

On man I forgot the output of a tractor pot is 800. Scratch that.

Tractor PTOs are normally 540 RPM, and some have a 1,000 RPM option. The PTO generators I've seen have a gearbox or belt drive to get up to 1,800. Two or three V belts with the right size pulleys should work, but you'd have to deal with shafts and bearings, etc.. It would be a project, no doubt.

Lots of pig farmers here have PTO driven gen sets for back up. If they lose power in the winter, a barn with 1000 pigs is in trouble. Even in summer, if the temps are high, losing power is big trouble. We set up a power station last year for a guy who had a Biogas power plant, photoelectric on the roof and naturally, an emergency hook up for his 30 KW PTO driven gen set. Wonderful set up. The PTO is simply a cable hook up and away we go!

I have the same one, you can buy them here.
However I like this one better, as it doesn't require as much clearance to work with and is easier to use in situations where things are tight, like in a HMMWV or a 6.9/7.3 with an after market turbo.

Does yanking the swollen glow plug out of the head leave debris in the prechamber?

depending on how swollen it is often it will be swollen just enough to not pass the threads, but by using one of those tools like I linked to you are pulling back and turning and that will pull it into the threads and basically squeeze it down and cut threads as it goes.
I get 80-85% out intact like that.
The keys are lube the threads well before starting and turn the plug in a slow, steady application of force. Don't go fast, don't jerk it.
That is why those tools are better than just yanking it or twisting with pliers.
