I'm going to stalk some HAM fests this spring also, hope to find a cheap antenna and base. Used military antenna are crazy expensive.Picked up an antenna tuner / base at a hamfest for $5.00. Trying to decide if I should leave it as is or look into modification for HF.
Might be a good time to change the thermostat if you haven't already. Not sure, but In the picture that heater hose looks a little swollen. They are cheap and easy to replace.Finally had enough nice weather to get my water pump done. Got farther than I thought yesterday after a late start. Turned out to be a beautiful day.

Another nice day today and finished up the rest. Really windy though. I'll still take that over what we got coming the next few days.
The heater hoses don't look to me like they are that old and feel good. It may be just the way the picture looks. The upper rad hose is pretty new and thermostat working great, I think they were replaced by the PO at the same time. He told me a list of things that were done before he sold it, I think they were in the list. The lower hose though, going to need a new one fairly soon. The timing gear cover was leaking pretty bad for years and has softened up the lower hose. If I had the money and the forethought I would have grabbed one while I was already pulling the pump.Might be a good time to change the thermostat if you haven't already. I am in the process of changing my coolant and original thermostat and heater hoses. You can get an original from your Gmail dealer still for 10$. They might have to order it, mine did. Don't put a chinese POS in it from AutoZone!

No Autozone parts for this truck, so far it's been the better quality NAPA parts. I'll put cheap parts on our car but this gets used to the extreme end of it's weight limits and worked hard. I wouldn't trade this truck for a new Silverado!

My friend is a Chevy guy. He borrowed my trailer and a friends Dodge pickup to go to Texas to pickup a flood damaged brand new Chevy truck. He loaded the Dodge on the trailer and drove it home being towed by the Chevy. After the truck drove the whole way home all the CEL lights went out. He just took his code reader and drove it home. Bought 2 2018 Impalas that had wet interior also. Trailered them home the second trip with the new Chevy truck. Poor Dodge.Just picked my first cucv up! Headed home now.

The new trucks do have a few improvements I like but there's no way I could ever get past the price. They have nicer seats, the a/c is a good option but I'm perfectly happy spinning the vent windows around in the 08, and seat heaters are the best option to ever come out. When I go to our local u-pickit for a steering coulmn I'll be scarfing heater pads out of a newer car to put in the truck seats. Other than that I hate the new trucks. Too much reliance on electricity for my liking. The only reason I even own a nice scanner is to fix my wife's rolling computer.I would. I drove a CUCV for over 20 years and still drive one. But the new trucks I have trump the old CUCV for comfort and reliability at this late point in time. That's me and the truck. Reality I have less down time then then CUCV's. Understanding they were built to last 17 years max. They did and are still doing a great job. Any new Silverado's you want to trade I have another CUCV for you. Bring the title.
Might have to ask around, but I would take your lines in and have new rubber crimped on. High temp hydraulic line would last longer.Figured out that my 4 year old AC Delco mystery import oil cooler lines are leaking enough to leave a drip where I park. Time to order up some new ones.
I've used those hoses from "rockauto" . They've worked out really well for me.I changed out the Power steering and hydroboost pressure hoses off of my power steering pump. I used the "sunsong" brand off of rockauto. They are crimped well, are bent pretty close. Only a tiny wiggle was necessary to bolt them to the tab at the bottom of the master cylinder. My old ones were leaking and had a suspicious bulge in the sidewall of one of them.
