Finally had enough nice weather to get my water pump done. Got farther than I thought yesterday after a late start. Turned out to be a beautiful day.


Another nice day today and finished up the rest. Really windy though. I'll still take that over what we got coming the next few days.

Picked up an antenna tuner / base at a hamfest for $5.00. Trying to decide if I should leave it as is or look into modification for HF.

I'm going to stalk some HAM fests this spring also, hope to find a cheap antenna and base. Used military antenna are crazy expensive.

Might be a good time to change the thermostat if you haven't already. Not sure, but In the picture that heater hose looks a little swollen. They are cheap and easy to replace.
I am in the process of changing my coolant and original thermostat and heater hoses. You can get an original from your Gmail dealer still for 10$. They might have to order it, mine did. Don't put a chinese POS in it from AutoZone!

No Autozone parts for this truck, so far it's been the better quality NAPA parts. I'll put cheap parts on our car but this gets used to the extreme end of it's weight limits and worked hard. I wouldn't trade this truck for a new Silverado!

I know how it is trying to get all the stuff you need when you need it! You get focused on one projects and lose sight of other related things.

I would. I drove a CUCV for over 20 years and still drive one. But the new trucks I have trump the old CUCV for comfort and reliability at this late point in time. That's me and the truck. Reality I have less down time then then CUCV's. Understanding they were built to last 17 years max. They did and are still doing a great job. Any new Silverado's you want to trade I have another CUCV for you. Bring the title.

That's the sure way to make it home when you buy one. I always hated trailering them with my Ford F350. Never heard the end of it the whole way home. But Chevy on Chevy. Always went well. My friend is a Chevy guy. He borrowed my trailer and a friends Dodge pickup to go to Texas to pickup a flood damaged brand new Chevy truck. He loaded the Dodge on the trailer and drove it home being towed by the Chevy. After the truck drove the whole way home all the CEL lights went out. He just took his code reader and drove it home. Bought 2 2018 Impalas that had wet interior also. Trailered them home the second trip with the new Chevy truck. Poor Dodge.

This Chevy has done an incredible job. Haven't even really noticed the m1009 behind us yet. I almost started driving it home instead of trailering but it's straight piped right now and I can't afford to be deaf.

Not sure on the thinking. I had my M1009 taken back to the muffler shop and quieter mufflers installed. I tried it for 2 weeks and didn't like it. Not even Mikey liked it and he likes everything. Both vehicles in formal wear is the way to go. Unless one on the trailer is a blue oval or a sheep. Have a Great Day.

The new trucks do have a few improvements I like but there's no way I could ever get past the price. They have nicer seats, the a/c is a good option but I'm perfectly happy spinning the vent windows around in the 08, and seat heaters are the best option to ever come out. When I go to our local u-pickit for a steering coulmn I'll be scarfing heater pads out of a newer car to put in the truck seats. Other than that I hate the new trucks. Too much reliance on electricity for my liking. The only reason I even own a nice scanner is to fix my wife's rolling computer.
I like things on the simple side, I can fix the 08 in the middle of the woods without running to town for parts they may not have in stock. I'm much more likely to get into trouble with a new truck. I gotta say though, the new GMCs are a **** good looking truck!

My gf just bought a new Lincoln mkx, I thought do you know how many CUCV's I could buy with that ! It has heated and cooled seats! When she was backing up the grill emblem popped out. I said something just happened with your grill emblem, thinking she popped the hood on accident, nope it was 180 degrees of cameras. She likes it and I will never work on it......never.

That is my point. I have several newer trucks non CUCV related. The new truck I NEVER work on. I drive it wash it and put gas in it. 2014 Silverado bought new in 9/13 and never done a thing. Come fall it goes. I buy not lease. I done the math. The initial investment is higher and the monthly payments are less then maintaining an older truck over a 5 year period. No battery, brakes, tires, nothing. warranted the full 5 years. But another example the 07 Silverado plow truck reached 181K and never had anything apart driveline related. No hubs, bearings or anything. just routine maintenance. The CUCV's are great trucks but being the older school much more maintenance required. Good to a point. Bad when you have multiple vehicles to keep running and a spread sheet to track costs. It seems the older the vehicle the more maintenance/money required. Unless I let them parked and in the dry. Blowing the transfer case on the 15 GMC was a fluke. I think the front U joint straps were loose from new. Never happened again. Just keep in mind. The comfort and drivability have improved so much in the 30 + years. We have a new Impala. I know I don't want a 1984 Impala to park along side as a comparison. My eyes would be watering as it idled. Have a great day. I have some CUCV cannibalization to do today. Have a member coming in from out of state. I have the cutting torch and sawzall ready. The Horror.

Figured out that my 4 year old AC Delco mystery import oil cooler lines are leaking enough to leave a drip where I park. Time to order up some new ones.

Might have to ask around, but I would take your lines in and have new rubber crimped on. High temp hydraulic line would last longer.

I changed out the Power steering and hydroboost pressure hoses off of my power steering pump. I used the "sunsong" brand off of rockauto. They are crimped well, are bent pretty close. Only a tiny wiggle was necessary to bolt them to the tab at the bottom of the master cylinder. My old ones were leaking and had a suspicious bulge in the sidewall of one of them.

I've used those hoses from "rockauto" . They've worked out really well for me.

Productive weekend on the m1008.
-Replaced 13g GP's with 60g. Seems to start quicker.
-Installed Zerostart 1000w block heater
-Lubed speedo cable. Found a neat trick to lube from the bottom by the trans.
-Tried to touch up the camouflage job but didn't turn out so well. Time for total repaint.
-Adjusted crossover drag link so my steering wheel is straight again
-Changed oil
-Ditched the round chrome lights on the front, have some LED's I still need to install.
