Hello all, just purchased a MEP 831a and have a few questions. On my unit it is listed as 50 hertz on one plate and 60 hertz on another? Any idea why?1896E310-6CDA-4926-8E59-97975BA874B6.jpeg7C0EC140-8CDC-4C3F-B928-5691ACD7F90B.jpeg

its probably setup for overseas operation. I have not messed with an 831, I know the larger units have a selector switch behind the main console

When you run it does it put out 50 or 60 hz? if it’s 50 there is probably a way to adjust it higher either engine governor or on the inverter box.

Says EXPORT on the data plate. Notice it also says, MODEL 960-01-500. So it is NOT a MEP-831A. This is NOT a piece of U.S. Military equipment.

There were a few oddball sets in this prior weeks Fermont auction that appeared to be 50hz units for overseas use. You need to buy a kill a watt meter (unless you have a multimeter that displays hertz) and plug it into this machine and see what its actually producing.

Hopefully this is the case, I pick it up tomorrow and will let you know how I make out. Thanks for the input. I have not seen a MEP 831a in 50 hertz, so hopefully it will do 60 hertz.

Like I told you. This is NOT a MEP-831A. It looks like it, but do not be surprised or mad if its not. You may get lucky with the adjustment screw. Send a PM to Dewie. He should be able to tell you the real deal.

I see what your saying I was a little slow on it. It was advertised as a MEP 831A I bid on it and every generator I looked at up until then was a true 831. This was the first one that is not. I bought it and pick it up tomorrow, not knowing until now that it’s not a true 831a. The listing is for a MEP 831A but the actual panel does not say that. Not sure what to do now. I paid for it already.

Are you 100% positive? There were auctions last Wed/Thur that were called out as not being 831As, but an alternate part number and a lot of similar images. If the heading says that, but the content does not... you might have grounds with Richie Bros. You might not too, if the alternate photos were shown in the listing. Care to share the actual listing you won against? Even if its via private message.

Not a total loss, most things wont care about frequency, the ones that do care are things with motors or things that use line frequency to run a clock

Ya I planned one running a few sensitive things and with circuit boards in just about everything now a days I don't want to chance 50 hertz. I would be afraid to even charge my phone on 50 hertz

I highly doubt a well pump will appreciate 50hz, and probably not the minisplit either, but at least with that one you can visually find the data plate on it to confirm what voltage and hertz range it will operate under.

I'm not an electrician, but from what I've heard from the ones that hooked up my 803a you never want to go low on frequency. I make sure my set never goes under 59hz.
