Deuce Rough Terrain Limitations

About power steering, the only guys I know of supplying wheels with a negative offset that fits a PS kit on a Deuce is Boyce, and their wheels don’t have beadlocks. This limits airing down the tires to about 40psi vs 10~15psi with a beadlock wheel without power-steering (or at least with a smaller turning radius due to 395s rubbing on the pitman arm).

Unless you can weld and fab your own wheel it seems like for anyone looking into buying parts for these modifications you are limited to hydraulic assist power steering with a 40psi minimum tire pressure. For the terrain shown in the video this would be more than enough but then the truck would lose versatility on sand…

@montaillou Thinking about availability of some of the mods people have mentioned in this thread, I’m curious if it would be possible to add a beadlock system to a rim like Boyce’s or if you know of anyone who might supply beadlocked rims for a deuce with less backspacing in order to have the wheels tracking wider for more clearance on 395s?

All suppliers I’ve seen suggested on older SS threads have since stopped offering these rims, limiting this feature to a 100% DIY job (which is preferrable if someone has the tools/know-how), but is not as accessible.

For what it's worth, some super singles (Michelin) are designed to be used with inner tubes.

Also, though I never tried it with power steering, the M1076 wheel, which I used for 395's has a 0 offset and didn't rub when turning.

I agree I’m actually looking for some M1076 wheels for mine! Haven’t had any luck yet.

However I know a guy that used the M1076 wheel on his with a waterloo power steering kit and it cleared the pitman arm but he said it created a rub on the exhaust so bad the truck was undriveable forcing him to reroute it. That part I did not understand what he meant honestly, shouldn’t pushing the wheels out make for more clearance rather than create rubbing on the exhaust?

My wheels never came close to my exhaust. I sold my 10 wheel set about a year ago. I originally got them from Ft. Lewis. Look for govplanet military auctions. Mine came with Michelin XL's on them.

I run tubes in 14.00-20's on 20-bolt 10" tubeless wheels with no trouble. Have for years, got tired of fighting leaks.

Those same wheels usually run a giant piece of rubber tubing inside, that holds the bead outward against the rim. I don't see why one couldn't use the same thing with a proper tube. It might be a good workout for strength training, too.

I use the rubber things as bottomless planters around the property...

I currently run tubes in my 395s as well. For terrain like that in the video of post #1 I believe they’re fine. But for some sand in the desert having a beadlock to air way down would be nice.

Thanks for the advice! Do the m1076 wheels fit on a deuce using the adapter plate for the HEMTTs?

I've run my M54A1 all around the Yuma dunes with soft 14.00s and never had one pop open.

It's not so much about PSI as how much flexion you see.

'Course a 5-ton is a might heavier than a deuce...

Great pic! I learned that I want to hook the winch cable up high before I explore water holes. That way I can step out of the cab onto the fender, grab the hook, chain and cable and toss it to the friendly person on dry land.

Turns out, winching is more fun when it does not start with me being shoulder deep in a mud hole!

Wait till you discover an old, burned out, rusty bedspring buried just beneath the surface.

The discovery was I'd driven right over it, and it caught on a grease Zerk on the rear driveshaft, and rolled up just perfectly around said shaft, locking my M37 in place.

All I had to remove it was a crappy pair of Globemaster (remember them) pliers, and being smack on top of an angry red anthill made it even more enjoyable...

When I got home, it looked like I'd caught the Measles.

When it comes to that amount of flexion are we talking half full tires or very low tires like the kind that needs a beadlock?

I used a 1/2" 10 to 6 adapter plate that I found on evil bay. The 10 bolt pattern was 10x335mm, the same pattern also used by MRAP's I believe.
Are these the same m1076 wheels?

Thanks! I checked it out and also searched the TM for the m1076 but didn’t find specs on the rims. Ultimately the one on the link I sent has enough backspacing like the PLS rims, so I believe it would just come down to if the lug pattern and mounting hole size would work with an MRAP adapter plate for the deuce 🤔

The seller put in 10x 285.75mm for the bolt pattern yet said it was the same as the MRAP. Seems like about a 2” difference from the 335mm on the plates you used.
