FLU419 transmission question

I just purchased a SEE. Hi, Lo, R, 3rd & 4th seem good. No 1st gear and barley into 2nd (will move but probably jump out of 2nd if not holding shifter). Y'all think it's the bushing?

That's the first thing I would suspect. Not that hard to replace. EI has the new ones.

Great write up! Followed the directions and got mine apart today in 30 min. Waiting on EI for the bushing in the mail. Question…. Mine didn’t have c clips on the pins…. Read that there are supposed to be some? Are they necessary? After reading posts it seems like some didn’t reinstall them anyways.

also, my failed bushing looked aftermarket. It wasn’t black like in the pics. It was off white color and absolutely destroyed.

Seeing as you drive yours a lot from what I understand Gary, I’d highly advise you do it. I was 5 miles from my place when I was stuck in second gear. Doesn’t seem like a real hard job after removal. I’d hate to be stranded. Cause of a piece of plastic lol

Silly question. Upon visual inspection, my bushing seems to have only slight wear and discoloration. It should be obvious it's bad, correct?

Yeah that doesn’t look terrible, but there’s some wear on the left and right sides. If it were me, I’d spend the 20$ to replace while you’re there. Mine was shifting 100% fine one minute and almost left me stranded on a dirt road 10 miles from civilization the next lol. Was able to get it into second gear and drove home

It would seem that unfortunately my problem is not the shifter bushing. Any ideas why mine won't go into first and will only move in second if I hold pressure on the shifter...??? Suggestions on how to diagnose?

when I got it home and pulled the shift lever there wasn’t much left. Just got the new one in the mail and it appears it was 80% gone lol. Had no idea it was so big before

I wanted to follow up and say I successfully got the bushing swapped out.

I encountered an issue with the holes where the two pins go in to the side of the bushing. I didn’t realize there are sleeves in the holes. They were protruding into the shifter cavity and the bushing wouldn’t slide in. Finally was able to get them pushed back in the holes. The bushing goes in TIGHT. I put a small black of wood on the top of the bushing, and used a piece of pipe that I could tap on with a hammer to bush the bushing into place.

after that all went fairly smooth. You must ensure the holes in the bushing are perfectly aligned with the holes in the walls of the shifter sleeve. There is no turning the bushing or taking it out in one piece once it’s in place.
Also, the compression collar on the shifter is a pain in the butt. Be prepared to be frustrated.

lol wish! I did find a steering component end link boot that is destroyed while I was under it yesterday. Think it’s just gonna stay that way for now as I don’t drive it much. My mog is simply a ranch tool.
