@MarkM maybe you'll like to try an ex-jet engine and see what it does (if it doesn't dry up your tiny fuel tank too quickly first) but..who knows!

A RATO unit would be better as it doesn't have to take time to spin up like a turbine. It won't last long but it would be one hell of a ride.

I had a bad cold advance thermostat, shorting out intermittently, causing the pump to advance. It accelerated the truck, but not like a rocket. Definitely a strange feeling though. Disconnect the cold advance wire on your pump, and see if the problem goes away.

Diesel runaway is a serious consideration. Did you bypass EGR? Bad EGR? Oil entering intake air will combust like injected Diesel fuel. It is called a “runaway engine”.

You best ensure this is not occurring. It will blow up your engine and turning the ignition off will do nothing.

Steve you are talking about the injection pump right? I see no way the fuel pump could cause this.

Sounds like the armature is sticking inside the pump, ive seen similar….I strongly recommend not driving it till the pump is replaced.
Second choice is a leaking turbocharger, oil is puddling in the intake to the point it is being pulled into the engine. Should this be the case the exhaust would look like rolling coal. A look on the intake side of the intake manifold should show black oil. Just my 2 cents.
