Does anyone have any good suggestions for a mounted holster for an 87 M998? All the ones I find are magnets and that’s a no go for aluminum.

Hmmm ...

If you like the magnetic design (checks remaining boxes), maybe glue or screw a strip of steel so it will work. Maybe skip the strip and use screws in place of magnets.

But, think long and hard about affixing your sidearm to your vehicle. Many states will frown on the holster - definitely not clearly legal in Texas. My personal preference is a cross draw holster for heavy driving days. This puts it exactly where I'm most likely to need to have it.

Far as good alternative, I'd screw a safariland ALS to the truck. There is a wide assortment of mounts for that holster. Just be certain to mount it so that the release button is well placed.

I bought a "Prepcision Magnetic Gun Pistol Mount Precision Quickdraw" a few years back. They have 4 holes for screws to mount and have a concealed magnet to secure the pistol. A nice feature is you can charge an empty chamber by pushing down on the grip as you grab your weapon. Never tried it with a revolver though.

Where did you mount it?

I see by your avitar you are located in Florida? If so, In Florida, a firearm in a vehicle must be securely encased or not readily accessible for immediate use, unless it is concealed on your person.

So if you have it mounted in a holster and get stopped by LEO, prepare to be swatted. You can't have a firearm openly visible in Florida.

I know they just changed the law and you do not need a concealed carry permit anymore to conceal carry. But I do not believe they changed the above requirements.
