What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I had another post where I stated my truck lost all power the other day when I went to start it. I determined that it was a loose battery connection on the rear battery. When I went to change the clamp out I discovered that because of the loose connection, there apparently was some arcing...

What to buy? Looking to get a tractor...

Well, I appreciate all the comments and I've spent much of the weekend reading and looking and reading somemore. I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent CDL school in the Hampton Roads/ Suffolk/ Chesapeake, VA area. I'm gonna go ahead and start this whole process by getting my CDL, then I...

What to buy? Looking to get a tractor...

I started into the realm of MVs last year with the purchase of my 1985 M1009 and I love it. Considering that I'm active duty, single (well divorced) and that I have 2 trucks, a utility trailer, and a boat and trailer, getting everything from point A to point B when I PCS can sometimes be a...

    Weird occurence tonight

I have a 1985 M1009, tonight I stopped by my buddy's to check on his project and when I went out to start the M1009, I turned the key as usual and all the standard lights came on momentarily, then everything went dead. It was like I had no power to anything, the radio, the dash, nothing. I...

    M1009 Centurion conversion

Well I'll be dammed, that looks WAY easier than what I had thought. I thought the rear of the Burb was longer than the top of the Blazer, dang. Interesting that the back half of my M1009 is in pristine condition while the bottom half is rusted to ****. May just hunt down a burb and transplant...

    M1009 Centurion conversion

SS Crew- I was driving around the other day and saw a Ford Centurion parked next to me, thought it was cool. I liked it, so I did some research, they are super hard to find and diesel ones are going for upwards of $10,000. These are trucks that Ford built as a conversion back in the 90s...

    M1009 Needs new radiator

I got mine from AutoZone, they had to order it, but got it in a few days, it was $320. It is a direct replacement with the integrated oil and tranny coolers. It went right in, everything bolted right up, runs great, zero problems. Let me know if you need anymore help. LCDR Dan

    Park M1009 faced uphill= hard/No start

Yep, same issue here if it sat for a few days. Guess it's off to the tech manual to find the return line glass check ball thing... LCDR Dan

    Recentering rims

That's currently the direction I'm thinking of heading. Just ordering all new rims with the differnet offset/ backspacing for the back. With that being said, if the current rims have a 4in backspacing, if I get rims with 2.5in backspacing that will push them out the 1.5in I need on each side...

    Recentering rims

Another thought was to just get wider rims. Here's what I figured so far... If I go with a 15 x 10 in the rear, what backspace would I run to get it to look right? If my calculations are correct, I need 1.5 inches on each side. The 15 x 10s are 2in wider per side and the stock backspacing...

    Recentering rims

I have a 1985 M1009 with the stock steel rims on it and I just like the old original look of my steelies, unfortunately, I hate the narrower look of the rear axle. If there's one thing I'm OCD about it's that. I thought I'd buy a set of 1.5 in spacers and put them on, but when I took it for a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Finished up the radiator replacement. Had to get new oil cooler lines made. Went to a local hydraulic line shop. showed them what I had and he hooked me up. I thought $148 was a bit expensive, but considering he had to make custom lines from a drawing and what was left over from the oil...

Metal oil cooler lines, possible fix, what do you think/

I though about it more and you are right, these lines are under pressure and would surely slip right off the aluminum without a lip there. As things would have it, in my attempts to get things worked out, I noticed that this was not the first time these lines had been messed with, hence the...

Metal oil cooler lines, possible fix, what do you think/

CUCV Crew- I'm in the process of replacing the radiator on my M1009, got it all tore apart. However, I can not get the oil cooler lines out of the radiator, the nut is frozen to the tube at the radiator. I can get the nut to back out of the radiator, but it won't rotate around the line and...
