Actually I prefer the fabric covered rubber shock cord as it helps keep the UV light at bay. Have had it as tie downs on my trailer for like six years now with no issues. Just my .02 cents.

The problem with DOT 5 is it does not absorb water so if it's old and the system has collected water it naturally flows to the lowest point in the system and rots out the lines in that spot.
They sell shock cord in all kinds of sizes. I used 1/2" shock cord on my M101A2 to go from bow to bow under tension to keep the cargo cover from sagging between the bows. Worked great. I also used it for the cover tie downs.
Below was my first attempt but unfortunately the rope would sag from...
I have spent time in Oahu on a work projects and can tell you rust is a huge issue on the islands. I would be extremely cautious buying a vechicle from there. Absolutely beautiful place but like everywhere it has issues.

I love the old G-Wagons and I think the best is the 300D with a stick. Not a lot of power but it will sure get you there and it's extremely reliable. My buddies Pinzgauer 712M only has a 90hp gas engine but even towing my M101A1 filled with hunting gear and five guys in the truck it does just...
Art bell was the best to help keep you awake on the long overnight drives. He had a great show and everything was 100% real and sometimes extremely frightening. Many good pairs of pants had to be thrown out because of him. lol

At least the HMMWVs have a lot of protection from bio hazzards. With their hermetically sealed doors and bio filtered vents we can feel secure. Only problem I've found as you need to crack a window or the air starts to run out.
That also crossed my mind but would have to wonder if that small dump valve (high rpm) would pull enough pressure for the IP not to function. I think it may possibly slow down the runaway a small degree but not stop it.
Since more than likely you would be driving the truck when this IP...
I use the Big Buddy 9000btu propane heater for my car trailer. I love this little thing. Will run on low for 6 hrs and 3 1/2 on high. It uses one pound propane bottles or can be made to run off a 20lb tank. My buddy has one to heat up the cargo area of a Pinzgauer 712M and it works great...
So it pinches the hose to close it off. Yeah that would work but the cost is high. But it would work as a imobilazer and a emergency fuel cut off.

How about a 1/2" 24v fuel cutoff solenoid after the fuel filter. Normally open and closed by am emergency switch. That will shut her down fast. Just a thought.
