What I do is replace the piece of hose eliminating the tee going to the pump then run a separate vent line from the pump up to the same place the system vent terminates near the air filter, I suspect if you plug the vent at the pump and it failed it would fill the crank case with diesel.

Also looking at the paperwork I get with these trucks (SF97) GP is the actual seller (owner) of the vehicles. One doc transfers ownership from the gov. to GP and the other transfers ownership from GP to me. I have never seen anything that indicates GP cannot do whatever they want with them...

Any decent transmission shop can rebuild the TH400. Besides "used take out, not tested AS IS" does not sound too promising. If you get it built locally any problems can be handled locally.
