M923A2 Windows Very Hard To Raise And Lower

My 809 had a *new* window mech put in it at some times in the past, HOWEVER, whom ever did it, messed it up! The one arm that has a single roller on it and is located towards the rear of the door, had some how gotten the roller wedged between the arm "track" and the outside flange of the track...

    Plastic Battery Box Modification

Cool. Yeah, I hear you on the other projects getting sidelined thing... these trucks pretty much DEMAND that you get them completely caught up on maintenance before they will let you have the time to (maybe) work on other projects.

    Plastic Battery Box Modification

Nice idea for taking the curve out of the top of those plastic boxes. I have been using an old mudflap on top of the batteries to keep the step spaced "up" a bit and help with the crushing/ bowing of the boxes, temporarily. What is the old straight six out of? GM or Ford?

M818 PTO seals and boots replacment

To answer the Woodruff key question- My little Geo Tracker had a worn key in the crankshaft snout and it was letting the timing "walk". I found out the hard way that the key was side-shearing when the timing moved enough that the engine decided to stop running during a rather steep up hill...

M818 PTO seals and boots replacment

If that Woodruff is showing ANY wear/ abuse, REPLACE it. It can cause ALOT of problems when it decides to fail, usually, when you need it to hang on for just a little bit longer. Ask me how I know that...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The fuel tanks on mine are steel, if that helps you any.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yeah, the "sponges" are almost an automatic requirement for the majority of batteries made, these days.

    Introducing the Soldier B HubHelper!!

Well, my pair of HubHelpers came in yesterday- the 2 piece 5 ton edition and the Deuce edition- They came in right in time for me to use the 5 ton one, as I have a leaky wheel cylinder to deal with, as well as a pressure plate that decided to check out in rush hour traffic.... the fun just...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I started the "Honey Badger" up for the first time in about 4 months. It had what sounded like three dead cylinders at first, and then it picked them up after about 2-3 minutes, and ran fine for the rest of the time.

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

I got the same one for my birthday back in August, and it has been very useful, both on the trucks AND on the farm equipment. I had to get a second one to keep on the 5 ton, since the first one is always being used.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, I got to talk to a guy that used to work on our trucks, and after explaining the transmission troubles that I have had onset suddenly, he thinks that the clutch may have had the pressure plate go south. Yea. looks like I get to see if there is an inspection plate on the bellhousing tomorrow...

M39 series vs. M809 series questions on PTO and transmission

My truck was converted over to the T-1138 by another member on here. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?59654-M818-Transfer-Case-Upgrade-T-138-to-T-1138 https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?172744-Transfer-case-upgrade-to-a-XM818wouu (THIS one is actually about MY truck)

M39 series vs. M809 series questions on PTO and transmission

Bump for an old thread, again. You could swap the old 6352 NON OD into an M809 be okay, correct? The truck in question has the X-case from a 900 series in it, so it would still have OD, technically. It is also on 395/85/20s' currently. My current trans is acting like it is about to go out and I...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, I *finally* got around to getting the new-ish tires on the truck. Somehow, for some reason, the clutch is no longer dis-engaging when you depress the pedal. It was working fine before that, so I am thinking that maybe the throw out bearing has shifted off of its retainer? It was fun...

    Alternator over voltage

Hey, Simp. Where did you find a Digital gauge? All the ones around here are Analog. Online, probably?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thank you for the praise, Ajax MD and Ahab. It can get pretty challenging at times, what with where we have to go, let alone back up a circus that is normally around 73 feet long. Small, OLD places like you find on the Northern East coast are chock full of those places! (Oh, so <many> choice...
