    M1000 Trailer

Well, I reached out to DRS about parts and this is the response I got. "Unfortunately we don't carry or sell spares to the general public. The spares we do sell are in large quantities to DLA, and manufacture them only after being contracted to do so. We are contract defense manufacturers...

Can the Gov't confiscate a vehicle after the sale? Putting that fear mongering to bed

It's a fact, the government has requested stuff back before, mainly due to a demil code change or something they weren't supposed to sell in the first place. Of the instances I know of, the people complied, so I don't know what would happen if you refused. I think they even requested some deuces...

    Locking hubs

The pros are, it will save on frontend wear, tire wear and fuel mileage (providing you have a air-shift t-case). The cons are mainly price, and if you have a sprag case it will cause your t-case to be engaged all the time. In my opinion, unless you are driving a bunch of miles and have a air...

Introduction of Air-shift T case and Air Assist Powersteering?

The air t-case came around sometime around 1970. I don't think the air steering came around as standard equipment until maybe the late '80s A2 or A3.

    M1000 Trailer

I was in serious talks with China Heavy Lift about a Goldhofer knockoff, but wasn't comfortable sending most of the money to china ahead of time before the trailer got here. I was also worried about the quality. From what I can tell, they are built exactly like the Goldhofer, and the Chinese...

    M1000 Trailer

G, I seem to remember one time that you mentioned to me about somebody connecting 2-M1000s together. Is that correct? I’ve been toying with the idea in my head, but can’t seem to figure out how. Looks like to me it would take a complete steering redesign. Not that I’m going to do anything like...

    M1000 Trailer

The gold standard in platform trailers, Goldhofer, uses 215s on their road trailers. They have a trailer rated at 28mt per axle line running 215s. Granted, that weight rating is only at 5kmph, but the 215s seem to hold up, if you don’t go too fast.

    M1000 Trailer

Spent a good part of the day going over the trailer. Got the apu started and ran what hyd I could. The apu fired right up, but after running it for 5 minutes or so, it started blowing oil out of the crankshaft seal. It wasn’t just running out, it was shooting out about 10’. I dont know what is...

    M1000 Trailer

Thanks. I may try to get up to Cookeville next week. I'm also going to try to put some air in the tires tomorrow and see how many I'll need. Yep, that's them.

    M1000 Trailer

Also, there are a couple of things I learned about RRAD. A lot of the surplus is out in what amounts to a field, if it rains in can turn into a mud bog. Ricky with Red River Wrecker was great, but told me something that made me a little nervous. When Dad called him to confirm the load out...

    M1000 Trailer

Unloaded the trailer this afternoon at my place. No pics because it was dark. Just a quick look over in the dark shows the trailer is in fairly good shape, it has a couple of customary forklift marks on it though. You can clearly see where two forks went under the trailer on the drivers side...

    Recommended Rattle Can Paint Color

By far, the best paint I’ve found for painting mvs is the Rapco paint. Can be bad in rattle cans or gallons.

    M1000 Trailer

Got the EUC back for my trailer this week. I’ve got Red River Wrecker Servisce lined up to load it, and my Dad and a friend of mine are going down there to pick it up. I would like to have went, but I’ve got a big project going on and can’t make it. Its just tough to get Eddy (the GP rep)...

    Scrap versus Resale

Looks like you may need to keep most of the body, but for future reference, you don’t have to cut it up to scrap. I know, if you can get it loaded on a trailer, the scrap yards around here will take it as-is. If you want the best price though, you’ll want to remove any other metals. Sometimes...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

I'll try to get a loading/unloading video. The shelter is currently sitting in the deuce, I need to unload it in the near future anyway. So far I've used the bed winch for all kinds of stuff. When needing to winch something, It's a lot easier to use the hyd winch in the bed than it is to use...

    S-280 Shelter. It's final ride

Anywhere I’ve been, if I have cell service outside, I’ll still have it inside. Maybe a little weaker but still usable. when I got mine, it had a huge rectangular hole in the side, where the military A/C was installed. I put a window unit in the top part of the hole, and made a plexiglass window...

    m35a2 cargo cover install

It's such a pain to remove/replace the cargo cover, it's been years since I've had mine on. I say either leave it on or leave it off, don't take it on and off all the time like I used to do.

    S-280 Shelter. It's final ride

I picked up my S280 back when they were plentiful on GL. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?137906-S-280-camper-build&highlight= I love mine and we will go camping in it a few times a year. I wish I had done the wood floor like you, I know what you mean about the feel of the metal...

    GL Lost Surplus Contract

Yes, I've seen the reports that they were storing it, but I don't see how that is even possible. Even if it was possible, the expense would be enormous, figuring all the logistics and warehousing. You could very well be right about behind the scenes dealings. Nobody seems to know where the stuff...

    An interesting article

I'm not buying that he paid $300 for a complete deuce from GL. I'll admit, I've seen some runners bring $600-$700 in the deuce hay day, but I've never seen a complete deuce go for $300. I do believe a M105 bringing $172, I've bought several of them for $150 each. I don't know where he get's...
