The more and more research I do I'm coming with the winch valve body is the restriction. Apperently alot of guys have drilled out the restrictor or removed it and are running upwards of 20 gpm pumps. The valve body supposedly only flows 3.5 gpm max. Guy's make their own manifolds and run a lever...
So I guess before I do anything I should just take the winch out of the loop and let the pump go straight back to the tank and see if the noise goes away? If that's the case I can put in a selector valve. One way the winch is in the loop the other way it free pumps or eventually just runs the...
Well the power steering isn't hooked up yet and I won't have any of the parts for a few months.
Here is the schematic of the plumbing on the hmmwv and the restrictor. The way the restrictor is placed I'd believe that only affects the flow out of the winch not the bypass circuit. I couldn't be...
I forgot to post the second video.... you can definitely hear the pump is much quieter at idle after working the winch.

I could modify this tank yes. I don't really want to make or buy a new tank but the more I look at it I might go with the 5 gallon from tsc. I'd like to plumb in auxiliary ports somewhere. I don't know what I'd use them for but it would be nice to have. Plus I'll never rule out another one of...
The pump is 5 gpm and the winch says in the tm that it has a 3.5 gpm restrictor in the valve body.
The plan is to run it like this for a little and add on power steering.
It seems like I have alot more hose then the waterloo kit. Maybe not suction hose but the lines to the winch then cooler then back to the tank are definitely longer. I'll have to see what I can get for a bigger tank.
You think that is definitely cavitation?
How does waterloo get away with a smaller tank then I'm running or is it because it's power steering? What if I went bigger on the suction hose?
Here's what it sounds like.
LDS Hydraulic Pump Whine: http://youtu.be/1NrG_plEimE
I worked the winch this morning. I hooked to a tree and drug the truck across the yard. It works good. Two things I noticed. The pump is almost quiet now at idle. But the sound is still there at about 1250 to...
Ok so I picked up a hmmwv hydraulic winch a few weeks ago and mounted it on my deuce. I bought a LDS power steering pump (vickers vtm42). I got it mounted today and all hooked up. The pump whines around 1200 to 1500 rpm. The winch works great under no load. Once the engine reaches that rpm it...
I'm posting this ahead of time but I'm looking for individuals with their MV's to participate in the 67th annual armed forces day parade in Reading Pa.
The parade is Saturday May 16th at 10 am. There is a free breakfast buffet that will be served prior to staging for all participants. There is...
Well I'm pretty much ruling out a electric pump. I'm decided right now between a gm saginaw pump or a LDS pump. A pto seems just as hard to find and more expensive then the LDS pump.
