    Why go green?

I’m handy. I can figure stuff out mechanically, but electricity is my weakness. You mention only getting one if I can work on it and fix it. What are common problems you run into?

    Why go green?

They are going to make Diesel engine noise. No way around that. it’s not so much the noise as it is the annoyance factor. I can mitigate some of that with conversations with neighbors, and sharing some kw of energy.

    Why go green?

    Wow. That’s pretty impressive.

    Why go green?

Cool. Thanks for the info. My neighbor is 20’ from me. They are cool, but I don’t want to press it. I guess an extension cord from the generator to to their house would do a lot to help tolerate the noise. I had wondered about piping the exhaust outside a garage, but CO poisoning was a huge...

    Why go green?

Well, that’s good to know, since they are the most expensive in the 10Kw family.

    Why go green?

Wait. I thought there was 100 ways to skin a cat??? My generator is obnoxiously noisy. I bought it before the February cold front that brought massive power outages to TX and I was embarrassed to use it bc I don’t think my neighbors hate me and I want to keep it that way. Which is why I’m...

    Why go green?

I’m looking for home backup power. The 10kw units MEP 1040, or 803A Help me understand why I want one. I have a consumer grade 13kw, dual fuel generator. It weighs 120 lbs or so, electric start etc. it’s brand new, it works. I understand the military units and Diesel engines hold the...

M1101 Troubleshooting Bearings\Brakes - Terrible MPG Towing! What should I inspect?

Good point. Not trying to maintain your speed going uphill is a fuel sucker.

M1101 Troubleshooting Bearings\Brakes - Terrible MPG Towing! What should I inspect?

There is an exponential increase in fuel consumption as you get above a certain speed. Trailer or not. The wide flat overhanging edges of the trailer exasperate the issue. I was pulling an S-280 on a gooseneck last year. It was square with the trailer. Fuel consumption was poor, but as...

M1101 Troubleshooting Bearings\Brakes - Terrible MPG Towing! What should I inspect?

You have a really wide trailer behind a narrower vehicle. Weight isn’t a huge factor, it’s that giant wall you are pulling. If you have a RTT, then more flat surface area and some wind drag as well. if it’s that much if an issue, you might look at a 101A2.It’s narrower and a couple hundred...

    M1101 Bearing set

I did. I put a 2.5” receiver hitch in place of the drop leg. That took 60 lbs off the tongue. I made a lunette drop hitch that worked out great, then I built a 3 axis coupler that is super quiet. Not that it’s necessary, I just wanted the challenge.

VIC to Cellphone Adapter and Military Radio Digital Modes Adapter

Totally worth it. Rolling down the highway in a five ton, carrying on a conversation on the phone. I usually can’t understand anything if there is noise around. I have no problem with this setup.

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

I had Southwest Tire and Wheel order a 5200 lb axle for me with 12” drums and 8x6.5 hubs. I’ll weld the perches and shock mounts on and try not to think about how much my mistake cost me.

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

That was the plan. At first, I was going to buy the $120 brakes. I sold the nose gear for $100, so I’m close enough to even and took 50 lbs off the tongue. My back is already happy. Then someone talked me into the ones with parking brakes. Ok, I can do that. They are handy. I saw a post where...

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

The entire system was jacked. Lines cut, master cylinder shot and I didn’t know what lay beyond just those problems. Before and after shots.

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

In hindsight, might have been best. At the time, I wanted to level the tongue and remove the excess weight, so I built a light weight lunette and sold the nose gear to gimpy.

Coug isn’t loosing his marbles. I deleted the post, and he replied to it. I went ahead and reposted the question.

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

The 101A2 has drums for a hydraulic brakes. Drums for electric brakes are smooth on the side so the magnet can grab. The hydraulic drums are not smooth and will do a number on your magnets, and not do anything to stop your trailer. Finally I googled “how do electric trailer brakes work”. Pretty...

    101A2 electric brakes - problem

Since my surge brake system was shot, I bought $250 set of electric Dexter brakes, with parking brake lever. I went on info given to me by ... I forget. Maybe eTrailer? Anyway ... bad info. They fit, but wouldn’t work. Probably because I didn’t understand how they worked. The original drums...

    Overland 5-ton camper with a 20' container (now 40' !)

But now you want a 10 wheel drive? I get it. You get an idea, then it sticks, then it takes on a life of its own. I got into green iron because a buddy said “Have you ever seen an adventure trailer?” Why, no. I haven’t. Let me dive head first down this rabbit hole and see what I find...
