I started today. Pictures will follow Friday. So far I have:
Replaced stock wheels and tires with 30 inch tires and new wheels.
Removed front hitch assembly.(four bolts)
Welded 3x3 box tubing for new ball hitch assembly.
Cut out fenders, removed 9 inches, from width, and lowered them to just...
1.65 is what my rings read. Maybe a little grease on the ring might help. Again, both plates bent while going backwards on uneven ground and turning at the same time.
I have bent two plates. Both bent while backing up. Binding seems to happen when you are backing up and turning on uneven ground. My pintle is a tight fit, with little clearance. After bending my first plate, I used a metal rasp and deburred my pintle, to no avail, because I then bent the second...
I purchased new 30" tires and new wheels. As soon as it goes below 100 degrees here, I will start the modification. Last couple of days has been 103-105.
It is great to have a forum like ours to get other ideas on how to remedy problems.
Thanks to everyone for their inputs.
Ok, here is what I found. The stock military lunette ring is to thick to work with my pintle hook setup. Empty, it binds up and will bend the plate, no matter the length. You can purchase a military size pintle, but the price would not be worth it to me. I am going to have the lunette on each of...
My buddy just received his M923a2 yesterday. On the passenger side, center axle, the track bar was dangling. The end cap which holds the track bar on was missing.
Any easy way to fix this?
I found that the seals will be damaged when you remove them. As cpf240 said, just replace them. At $4.97 per seal, it is cheap. Any order over $99 at Summit, gets free shipping.
A while back, we purchased a 2011 M1101 trailer. I took off the wheel and brake drum and checked the bearings for grease. Before I did this, I checked and found out that the M1101 wheel seal was CR22532 which is the same as a Auto Xtra
412920. Napa had the CR for a little over $22 each. Summit...
Just for reference, a trucker brought our M923a2 600 miles from Barstow to Redding for $1,500.
Best $1,500 I spent. Possible accident or break down, would ruin your day, if you had someone drive it to your house.
Our M923a2 is a 1989. Our insurance company is Farmers. They have another underwriter insure it under their classic policy. The only restriction they have is that the truck must be housed in a garage of some type. They only insure with full coverage, not just PLPD. $59 a year is a great price...
We just licensed and insured our M923a2 here in California. We licensed it with Historic plates. License and registration was just over $100. Insurance was $59 per year. You will have to get a class B drivers license. CARB rules do not apply to our Historic plated vehicle here in California.
I have been studying on what to do with the tires and wheels that came with our three M116a3 trailers. They are like new, about 98% tread, but make the trailers pretty tall. The trailers are to short to pull behind our M923a2, and to tall for our F250 pickup or Jeep without modification.
What...
They fit nicely on our 16ft. tilt car trailer. The bed is 8 ft. long, and it looks like it could easily be modified to a 12 ft. bed. I will post pictures as I am modifying them.
