On one of our M116a3 trailers we are modifying the wiring to a 12 volt system. Using a exterior battery I located the right and left turn signal wires along with the wire for the running lights. I wired them into the four wire harness and using the green wire for the right blinker and brake...
My plan is to weld some stake pockets to the side, then place water proof containers on the trailer and strap them down. Inside the containers will be a tent, extra water and fuel, food, etc. for excursions into the wilderness. I think modified M116a3 will be lighter than our stock M1101. It...
One of our m116a3 trailers, I modified by moving the fenders out about nine inches each side. You might have to do that to get your mule between the fenders. I installed smaller tires and wheels also. I still need to paint it. I am going to paint it to match the color of our Jeep.
We have three M116a3 flatbed trailers that show they weigh 800 lbs. empty.
We have one M1101 trailer with an aluminum bed that shows it is 1460 lbs. empty.
I would think that the aluminum bed is not 660 lbs.
Therefore it might be advantageous to find another M1101 bed and put it on the M116a3...
Here in California, they are all "1989's" due to being able to license them for Historical plates. If you can't find a year, and don't know what year it is, and you want to license and insure for less money, you have a choice.
As said above, my research shows 1989-1993. You can not license a...
Yes the M101a2 trailers are great for Jeeps. I wanted the extra capacity of the M1101 when pulling with our F250 truck, plus I can still pull M1101 with our JKUR.
I agree, that a trailer for just the Jeep, the M101a2 is a perfect fit.
If you would have read closely, you would see that we are in California, and they do not require trailer brakes for this size trailer. Also there is no problem stopping this trailer with our pickup or Jeep with the weights I will be carrying. Also if you would have read my posts, you would have...
One thing to consider is to purchase a ball hitch that extends beyond the spare tire on your Jeep. My original stock hitch is not long enough to clear the spare, and release. An extra two to three inches does the job.
That is an option, but my plans are to use electric brakes if I need them. Our 2012 Ford F250 has great brakes and could handle the maximum weight of this trailer with no problem. When pulling with the Jeep, it will hold extra water, fuel and some camping supplies. I would guess about a maximum...
No, the surge brakes do not work with this setup.
Yes the trailer pulls fine with the Jeep. The M1101 has an all aluminum bed, and only weighs 1,460 lbs. empty. The Jeep four door can pull a 3,500 lb. trailer. Jeep two doors are limited to 2,000 lb. trailers.
The problem was that the trailer...
I could have made the fenders two inches lower, and still would not bottom out. The spring rubbers have a total of 3 1/2 inch travel. The tire I have on this trailer is 1 1/2 inch below the bed. Using a shorter tire, one could make the bed flat with no fender extensions, so you could use the...
Pictures of stock and modified M116a3 trailers.
Next step is to do some body work, then prep it for painting. I will paint it a two tone, so it will have the color of our truck and Jeep.
I altered the fenders for more bed space, also pintle to ball hitch. 30 inch tires vs. 37 inch tires makes...
Let us know if you plan on any modifications. Our 1101 is bone stock right now, but I plan on installing a ball type hitch.
They are great trailers for the money.
Congratulations.
