One possibility but it's ugly... Drill a hole in the cylinder end plate and extend the shifter rod out, put a clevis or rod end on it and connect to a lever. Opportunities abound for mess-ups though. I need to replace the sprags in mine because I have a manual air shift set-up in my F700 as a...
Just watched the u-tube vid driving through the mud and turning around. Have you thought of adding rear-steering? With a truck as short as yours you would be able to turn around just about on the road.
Will do on the post.
As for this thread, the rear steering thing is a lot of fun. I remember reading an article about Bigfoot and how they added the rear steering. Bob Chandler was talking to a Rockwell engineer and the engineer said that the axles (steer to drive position) were interchangable...
Thanks.
If the moderators don't mind, since this is an MV site and my truck really is not part of that group, I'll do a small thread on it. Otherwise I'll email you with the details. PM an addy and we'll go from there.
You have a good eye mudguppy. The winch is going on front when I get the bumper / mount finished. I needed a place to store it out of the way. I plan to drive it with hydraulics as I may not have any help if (when) I get it stuck. That may cut the pull a little but I will not weigh anywhere...
Hopefully these will load. Basic stuff here. Just a 12 volt electric / hydraulic pump, 4-way solenoid. Small pneumatic ram to drive the pin. Standard 5 ton steering arm with the hole squared up and the guides welded on. Pin hits the center every time.
I have 5 tons with rear steering under my F-700. It has an electric / hydraulic power source with a toggle switch for left / right. It has a small pneumatic cylinder that drives a 1" pin in and locks it for road use. If you want I'll send some pics. Front and rear are not connected in any way.
Amazing collection. He was brilliantly "sick" if that is an acceptable term, and meaning good in every way. He knew the value of those aircraft would only go up as more were recycled. They remind us of what our freedom costs and why it is so important to defend it. I live close to the Lone Star...
I'll take a set if reasonable also.
AVM used to make some years ago for the 2-1/2 and 5 tons. I had a set of the 2-1/2 tons with the air shift t-case. Just left the air off until I went offroad and locked in the hubs.
There is a part-time PTO for the 5 ton. I forget the exact name / numbers but Dave @ Eastern Surplus had one or two.
I was looking into one for mine.I have a 5 ton winch mounted in the rear of my truck and was planning drive the hydraulics
that way also. Kind of pricey last time I checked, but...
Thanks for the info. I suspected they didn't have any but had no way to verify. Probably put an auto drain on the tanks and be done with it.
Thanks again.
I can't believe you got that beast stuck. I know it can happen...
Finally got (most) of the computer problems sorted out, and a little time off from work these days to get back on-line once in a while now.
Happy cleaning!!
I'm finishing up a project where I put some 5 ton axles and t-case under a non-mil truck, and I'm down to figuring out which master cylinder to use. I want to go with the 5 ton and air assist. My question is this: Do the 5 tons have an air dryer or filter on the air system? My doner truck didn't...
RE: Advice for swapping deuce axles into monster-truck proje
Tell him to use the u-joint shafts as they are a little stronger. With the 1600s he can break these too so beware. He could check out Ouverson (I may have mis-spelled) Engineering. Randy makes the strongest shafts and components for...
I went through a front axle recently and found the inner seal surface in bad shape. I put a sleeve on it (the shaft) but don't really like how it came out as the splines that slide into the gears slightly deformed the sleeve as it went over them. No leaks yet but I only drive it in my yard right...
