You don't need a lift if you don't mind trimming fenders.
A mechanic I talked to at a base (while picking up my deuce) told me they used to run them on M1008s by just running them backwards. I don't know why it wouldn't work. The tires would probably stick out far though.
Anyone have a pic of a 5 ton running the 14R20s? I was planning to run the 16r20s (on the 5 ton I don't even have yet) but am interested in impacting the power less as long as it still looks/performs BA.
I wouldn't run it simply because it is a v8. V8s only have 5 main bearings. Inline 6 engines have 7 main bearings. They're much stronger in general, will last longer, and can stand up to heavy duty operations.
I've got a M1008 for sale with a big 'ol flat bed. $2000. It isn't running right now but is an easy fix! PM me if interested. $2650 if I fix it first.
