The center of gravity for the truck empty and loaded is shown on the weight and dimension/ serial number data tag on the dash. You can find good enough pics to see it with a quick google search.
It should be a Studebaker, built around 1954 according to the number. If the axles have data tags on them they should have a year listed, or it could be on the housing itself.
It should make a pretty good plow truck. The Army tested HMMWVs with 9 foot Fisher plows here in VT with good results. A friend drove one and said it did really well.

That's the correct size tire since your trailer is an m116a2 (m101a2 with the cargo bed). The m101a3 versions and the later aluminum trailers had the bigger HMMWV tires stock. You can run some wider tires if you want to, there should be enough room. I had 36x12.5x16.5 tires on one of my...
I wouldn't be surprised if it was from the same unit, his still had the sharks on the doors too. I'll ask him where he bought it from next time I see him, I think he told me but I can't remember now. It's been out of service at least as long as yours.

They're not 7/8", they're 1". Many civilian 1" shackles won't fit (too narrow for the mount) so your best bet is to post a want ad like 90jimmy said. Someone here will have an extra set.
