Thanks for the armor ID info. Just so we're talking about the same M16 that was auctioned, you mean this one was not an authentic M16??

That is just crazy, to...
It has the turret and 8 tombstone ammo cans. He said all armor is original, but I'm 3,000 miles away and even if I were close, I'm no metallurgist, so not sure how to tell. Guy seems trustworthy and is pretty plugged in to the re-enactment scene. So it's not some craigslist or ebay sale, the...
Marc,
I saw some photos in other threads of your HT and just wanted to chime in what a great journey you have made. Deep bow to you for effort and determination to bring this baby back and restore it. And thanks for serving.
It looks like you are in York PA? Do you attend any shows in...
I think the rules have just changed. If it was made before 1956 (I may be wrong on the date), the prohibition has been lifted. At least that's what I've been told. I am still searching for the actual regulation or documentation.
Guys,
I'm trying to purchase an M16 Half Track and need some advice. The M16 I'm looking at is in Europe, had nut and bolt restoration by owner, firm at $65K. It's an original M16 with original WWII armor, original Maxson turret with four repro quad 50's. Owner says he used NOS parts throughout...
Nice! I am hunting for an M16, it's not easy to find nice machines. How does she drive? Everything I read, you have to stay below 40 mph... How fast have you gone and does it feel safe and secure going down the road at 30-35 mph?
Did it have the Maxson turret (quad mount)? You mention it in your...
The M16 I'm looking at is considerably more, Seller is firm at 42K pounds, which is around $64K. He has done a nut and bolt restoration several years ago and says it's totally original M16, not an M5 reworked into an M16. From what I gather the original M16's with original armor are quite rare...
Hey L999, love your HT. What do you know about the time and cost of restoration? Also, are those quads made by muckabouts? Do you know if M16's with original armor (folding sides) are super rare in US? I am trying to purchase one in Europe, and I am not a purist who needs original armor, but...
To Jimk's point about wives divorcing guys who buy crazy military vehicles, my wife already is bitching that I'm spending waay too much time on the computer "looking at army trucks", so I dunno how I'd ever be able to do anything more, like actually work on them (even if I was capable of doing...
Ha, ha, she might leave anyway, so I might as well have a Stolly in the driveway[thumbzup] So are you the one with the overhauled one, I take it it's the nicest in USA? Would love to know the story of the overhaul, purchase, ownership...
I have seen photos of his Stolly, it looks nice. If someone is lucky to have the time and expertise, as well as motivation, to self restore one of these beasts, I suppose it can be done inexpensively. I can imagine hiring a shop to do the work is going to cost $50K+, assuming a shop exists that...
It doesn't seem to be that much, given the engineering and coolness factor. But a more crucial question is: how much would it take to fully overhaul one of these? And is there any US based shop that has the expertise to do it? I have corresponded with a guy in UK selling his for 3K pounds, and...
+1
One of my favorite!! First time I saw that, I had to question whether it's even possible. That much force slamming the windshield, it defies logic!!
I presume they are going for more? If you know of anyone selling, please post link or PM me. I presume 80% of the pricing is driven by condition, so at end of the day a $12K paperweight may be worse deal than $50K museum quality restoration unit.
Bump, I'm curious how this turned out. Is the consensus on here that these are not worth the hassle? Is there anyone in USA that restores or overhauls these? I have been offered one that is a paperweight now, appears to be complete, but I am just wondering whether it's financially viable to...
Try Jonathan at JR Martin. They are in PA and hauled my 5 ton from Sparta a little over a year ago. They were super reasonable.
