    form 6 questions

I am planning on importing a Daimler Ferret from UK. Trying to decipher the Form 6 process. I have not settled on particular vehicle, but a UK shop is searching for me and will overhaul it. Would they be considered the seller for Form 6 purposes or would it be the owner from whom the Ferret will...

You are wise beyond your low hours ! Many a wife, mine included, don't understand this hobby.

New Additions to the Collection on the Way!

Dave, how has the BTR70 been to run? Are you able to go on public roads or is it oversized? I love your collection and story about bringing the armor from CA. Thanks for sharing.

Travails of moving Armor #2... Leopard 1 and Swiss Pz61 are home! WARNING LONG!

What about our 4th amendment?? I thought LEO cannot just stop you, unless they have (a) probable cause that a crime has been committed [e.g. they observe a traffic violation] or (b) an articulable suspicion that you are about to commit or are committing a crime (they see what looks like a beer...

So after 6 years of saving up I bought a BRDM2...

When I was looking at the BRDM's, I read that some of the units had the belly wheels taken out in order to increase interior room. The way they sit, they are very intrusive in the space and get lowered to make ground contact. I understand they are also chain driven, so a part of me questions how...

Bump.... I am salivating for an update! Any chance she makes it to the Rausch Creek rally this spring, it's in PA! I would do the trip there just to sit inside :)

    Mortar investments?

Actual, I have been hunting for my first armor piece for a few months and like you was wondering whether to go wheeled or tracked. I am leaning toward wheeled for several reasons: 1) as Austringer said, tracked usage is more limited, since you can't really use it on streets. There is some...

    Btr 60

One more thing, if I'm not mistaken, the BTR 60 has 2 engines in the back and they are likely not easy to keep synchronized or whatever the term is in order to provide equal power. So apart from being oversize, you also will need a full time mechanic... The BTR 80 went to one motor, but AFAIK...

    Btr 60

When they pull you over for being oversize, you can just ignore and keep driving. When they deploy the National Guard, you can just claim ignorance. "Officer, I honestly didn't realize you were behind me" ;)

    Scorpion's first Parade

I was thoroughly amused, he sounds like a pretty interesting guy, who is obstinate and compelled to refuse to bow to political correctness. While I don't advocate blindly refusing to follow authority, I give the guy kudos for surviving 17 years in lock up, and getting another piece of armor...

    Scorpion's first Parade

Will it work with M939 trucks? Is it being sold "retail" or through discount channels like GL? Us mortals can never afford the tech, unless it's being offloaded for 10 cents per $.

    Scorpion's first Parade

I just looked up the truck and yes, front axles are steering 10 ton units, and double rears are 20 ton "double drive rear bogeys", all are made by GKN. Cross diff and interaxles locks. It is a pretty awesome truck, just look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm_5eBYppzw

    Scorpion's first Parade

I am not at all en expert on the truck, but it does have 2 steering axles and 6 wheel drive. I think it has locking diff's which is a huge benefit. I have actually gotten my 5 ton stuck on level grass last winter outside my house b/c I couldn't engage front axle -- the air activated switch that...

    Scorpion's first Parade

Martin, a bit off topic, but the Scorpion has track pads as do all the CVRT's correct? Have you ever just driven it on the street, or would LEO hassle you? I was thinking about tracked armor, like a Saurer 4K or Stormer (also CVRT), but seems like you can really only use them off road, and for...

    Scorpion's first Parade

There is a very neat system used in Europe called DROPS. Basically lets you snag a trailer and piggy back it onto the truck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7hdu1zuVKA I saw a Foden DROPS truck for sale in UK for 17,500 British pounds http://www.mod-sales.com/vehicle/search/38544/Foden.htm and...

My M936 was delivered last night.........

I know this is old, but FWIW, I also used JR Martin to transport my 5 ton (m923a2) from Sparta Wisconsin to Newtown PA and they were super to deal with. Took a bit longer than I expected to schedule, but only b/c they were trying to line up logistics to reduce my price. We wound up paying $1,200...

    Scorpion's first Parade

Curious, what kind of trailer is that? Your 923 isn't the a2 version, which is what I have, and I think the prior versions had a weaker motor? Just wondering whether my 923a2 would have the guts to pull a trailer with similar weight armor. I'm leaning toward a Saurer 4K, which is about 12 tons...
