What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Looks like they could have built those brackets with a little more meat on the bottom side. I'll be checking mine when I change out the water pump to see if I'm missing that small bracket that wasn't attached correctly on yours.

Who has attached a snowplow to their M1009.?

$530  I considered looking for a new bracket but for that price I guess I'll keep combing junkyards for a used one. There are a ton of minute mount plows around here and usually pretty reasonably priced, but never any brackets for our trucks.

    Door Seals ....

If you find it is leaking at the windshield, I would have to go with iacucv's recommendation of having a body shop look at it. Unless you have a mig welder to make possible repairs to the pinch weld and a free weekend. I have seen a couple where enough of the pinch weld was rotted away that they...

    Door Seals ....

I worked at an upholstery shop that also did windows, a little trick to track down hard to find leaks is to sprinkle baby powder around the windshield seal and body seams in the area. Then go inside with an air hose and blow nozzle, blowing at the seal everywhere you put baby powder on the other...

    Alternative use for glowplug resistor?

Well I suppose I shouldn't worry about it too much, maybe I'm just over thinking the whole bit. I have a dual band Icom in now, a modded Yaesu and a simple Cobra CB going in, and a laptop that I'm building a mount for. The things you get involved in when a group of similar thinking guys (and...

    Alternative use for glowplug resistor?

Thanks guys. I may look into converters just so I can keep to load spread between the two batteries. I realize that running off the front will also work but at night running lights plus my radios will just keep one alternator working more. I may not see a problem over a few years but I think...

    Alternative use for glowplug resistor?

I have some radio equipment going in my M1008 and was wondering if I could use a glowplug resistor to get power for the equipment as a way to bypass adding additional stress on the front battery. At least this way it would be drawing from both and I could run it to a fuse panel just for the...

    Air cleaner components-necessary?

The only thing important with these engines is the air cleaner housing and filter element. The ducting that is on the civi engines doesn't matter even on them. There's no HP increase to be had, no performance improvement. It will help to get cleaner air to the filter but that is it. And for my...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

The new starter came in yesterday and got it installed today, with a new starter bracket. What a huge difference. The other starter was definitely on it's way out when I bought the truck last year. She spins over twice as fast as she did a couple weeks ago. Still plenty of other things that...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It will push back in with the plate. I will also need to replace my pump soon, getting noisy.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Will have one here Friday from Ebay This one is going to need at least bearings/bushings, the armature doesn't want to turn by hand. She's locked up. I'll eventually order the parts to overhaul it then I'll have a spare.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Knowing you have tons of parts completely slipped my mind :( It set my whole day off, was supposed to be out paying bills till that happened. Was still in a foul mood till today when I finally got the truck towed home and pulled the starter. The armature is set up. I may pull it apart next month...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

The wait is the biggest problem right now. Any other time of the year I could have dealt with it, it's deer season here...I need my tuck!! lol

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

This is my next project. Went to town today to drop off my inspection ticket to please the revenuers and when I came back out the starter would just clunk. The solenoid energizes but the starter doesn't turn. Look like it'll be down for at least a week by time I get a starter in. NAPA wants $300...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

A lot of truth to this! I don't trust anything coming from any of the big oil companies. I learned first hand how bad the new oils were in my previous truck. I had a low mileage '71 GMC, all original and unmolested. Using the new oils I started having problems keeping the valves in adjustment...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

I've read all the threads here I could find concerning additives and haven't really found anything I'm interested in using unless I need an anti-gel for weather. Something I did wonder about was using MMO, we've always used it in overhead valve engines in old tractors, garden tractors, or in...

    M1010 Radio ideas

I'm a member of the site Drock linked to and guys there have come up with great ways to mount radios in trucks that didn't originally have them. Anyone can hack a dash with a saw but some of those guys make it look right, and easy. Not to take away anything from this site, but when it comes to...

    Slip yoke issue...

Update... Called Fleetpride this AM and they didn't have one in stock, could have it in the morning for $103+ the Governor's pence. Called Cook Brothers and they had one on the shelf for $68+. Man is it good to have my truck back! The new t-case is smooth and quiet and no vibrations in the drive...

    Slip yoke issue...

Thanks, glad to know it isn't anything mil specific. I'll call the local shops to see who has that Spicer # in stock. I'll call Denny's if no one has it seems they're also in NY. The way businesses are scrambling to get out of NY I try to support them best I can.
