Well, Solved the Gen 2 gremlin--seems when I replaced the gen 2 relay when I first started having trouble, I had a bad relay out of the box. I replaced it on a whim and, WHOLLA!
Got the dash all back together, added some Mossy Oak seat covers, got the floor shifter mod all finished up, and...
Good news!
There it is... :doghead: I traced the circuit (found out that 24 volts actually goes INTO the PCB via pin 7 (orange wire), through the Gen 2 bulb, and OUT via pin 6 (BRN/RED wire) to the relay.
I don't know where I was getting that 12 volts there or why, but, it disappeared...
Got back to it today...
Put a new PCB in in order to eliminate that possibility. Not the problem. Bulbs and sockets check out, so, I decided to check voltage at the wiring harness. Pin 7, where it plugs into the PCB has 25 volts with the key on and pin 6 shows 12 volts. Shouldn't pin 6 show 25...
Glad you got it taken care of...
I hate unsolved issues and phantom noises... I'll spend all day trying to find the source of the slightest "thunk" or "squeak"....

After the smoke and spark show, you better check all those fusible links and your fuses.
Download the CUCV charging system diagram (just Google it and the image will come up) and make sure you're all hooked up correctly...
I've been where you're at... No fun...

Your explanations are excellent...I'm loving this discussion, however, I have to get back to my electrical troubles...Some theory may come into play here...
My alt parts aren't here yet, so, I decided to go through voltage checks again--By the book this time--no John Wayne-ing it
Pulled the...
I'll just say that if you don't have a grounding reference to the chassis, you'll wish you did the first time you BECOME it...
Earth, chassis--all references to ground. But, you made my point with one word--"SIMPLE". That's what I was getting at. It's easy to see how things work in theory or...
Thanks, everyone. THIS is why I pose the question--not so much to talk me into or out of something, but, because I knew the ideas and information would flow...
I'm so thankful for this forum...

My engine oil leak hits the ground, the tranny is just seeping around the driver's side edge a bit... We'll see what happens...

I was under the beast today, adjusting the floor shifter I just installed, and was reminded of the oil leak that I've had since I bought the truck in 2012. Two Superbowl Sundays ago, I was undereath it in my in-law's garage replacing the oil pan gasket--not fun.
It didn't fix the problem. It...
Alright... Lemme back up a bit. You CAN'T have a completely isolated ground system. There HAS to be a reference (measuring point) to the ground.
That said, showing a diagram without a ground reference (drawn or worded) can help to illustrate a series circuit between two supplies. The only...
I'm not saying you're wrong and not trying to be argumentative, but, here's the thing--everyone learns a little differently. I like having things broken down into simplest terms--then build up to more complex. Add a little here, add a little there. I saw this as a 'simplest terms' explanation...
Since I'm waiting on alternator parts for a few days for my Gen 2 gremlin, I decided to put my B&M Unimatic floor shifter in. It was really simple and the instructions are really detailed. It uses a cable system, so, you can mount it almost anywhere you want...
The thing right below the handle...
What I got from it was not necessarily how the CUCV system works, but, the theory and principal behind a 24 volt system.
I went to school for electronics and then to lineman school. I've probably forgotten more than I remember, but, the theory behind this is sound. I think this guy was talking...
Taking a few days off of my electrical woes today while I wait for alternator parts. In the meantime, I'm installing my B&M Unimatic floor shifter...
Also in the meantime, I found this excellent, generalized explanation about how 24 volt systems work from another forum:
"When two batteries are...
I smoked it... Only get open circuit both ways when testing the diode trio. Regulator cuts off at exactly 14.82 volts. The -34 says it shouldn't cut off until after 15.5 volts... Is that bad too?
I wish there were pictures for how to test the rectifier since I can't picture what it tells you...
Glad I bought plenty of fusible link wire the first time...Here are all of the links, made from scratch as per Warthog in "Fusible Links 101" for the 12 volt block...Much, much faster at doing it this time...
12 volt block, driver's side done--20 gauge and 16 gauge left to install on the...
