    Front end/Rear end Swap

That's what I'm hoping for...!!!

    Front end/Rear end Swap

I'm almost ready to drop the old stuff out and hoist the new into place...Last night, I warmed up my garage so I could paint the 'new' stuff. Anyway, I'm kind of hung up on the connecting rod/steering arm. The cotter pins on the castle nuts are corroded and won't budge. Any tips or suggestions...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Thanks guys. All of that is helpful. I've replaced steering components before, but, usually on cars. Some things are the same, some different--some things are the same but with different names... Anyway, here's where I'm at so far: 1. Removed all of the wheels. 2. All shock absorber bolts...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

More stupid than I thought...Soon as I moved to the other side, I realized I didn't even know what I was looking at. Hint--I WASN'T looking at this side. Learning as I go....aua Appreciate your patience...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Alright--stupid question, but, I don't care--I'm going to ask anyway before I go buy another nut and combo wrench... What happens if I don't remove the connecting rod from the steering arm? Is it under tension? Is it going to cause problems upon attempting to install the 'new' front end? That...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

cucvrs....I SWEAR someone suggested that before.....:-)

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Nope, no lift right now. I'm going to have 31 x 10.50 tires, so, I don't see a need at the moment. If I go with 33s-35s in the next year or two, I'll consider it then.

    Front end/Rear end Swap

OK, Sooo, with the 14 bolt SF, I WON'T need a shorter drive-shaft? Just the "bastard u-joint"? This is the front and rear ends I have, by the way, just for your verification....

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Thanks! How do I go about that--piece together one u-joint from using the caps from 2 different u-joints? Any ideas about the drive-shaft length?

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Alright...I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before I start, so, TWO questions remain: 1. The question about the brakes... 2. The rear drive shaft--It looks like the front is that same...How do I deal with this thing? Obviously, one end is going to bolt up to the t-case just fine, since...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Good stuff so far--thanks guys. cucvrus--I appreciate your input and several of my friend validate your view. They told me to just change out the axle--much easier. I do appreciate that, but, I guess I kind of wanted to prove I could do this, #1, but, I figure if I ever wand to run a bit...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Ok, so, last winter, the driver's side rear axle broke on my M1009. I'm a bit do-it-yourself-er--I do most of my own work, within reason, on vehicles and stuff around the house. I digress--I was very busy working on the railroad and I have very limited facilities in which to do repairs--like...

    Electrical

I'm trying to chronicle this as thoroughly as I can so hopefully it can be used by someone else. As for the Christmas Eve thing--you guys know how it is: it's an obsession. Especially the closer you get to figuring it out. My wife's constantly at me to quit and work on more "appropriate"...

    Electrical

Some questions after hours of reading... If the bulbs provide (Gen 1 and Gen 2 bulbs) resistance for the exciters to work and for there to be voltage, then, am I correct in assuming that my exciters must be working since I at least have around 12.25 Volts on Gen 2 and 14.97 on Gen 1? The bulbs...

Oops! I was gonna do that..Here they are. Let me know if you want another angle or a close-up of anything else....

    Electrical

I was looking at the schematic from CUCV Electric again, and I saw a "Generator 2 Relay". Can anyone tell me where it's at and what effect it would have if it had gone out?

    PeeWee's M1009 Build Thread

Been a while since I did anything, and I had some electrical issues, so, I figured I'd install the circulating heater I bought. It's a Katz 1500W and it works great. I teed into the lower radiator hose and into one of the heater hoses. That 2"x2"x5/8" tee sucked to find, but I finally found it...

    Electrical

OK, I'm narrowing it down... I cleaned the daylights out of the connections for both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 bulbs. Got the Gen 1 light to come on but, not the Gen 2 cleaned it some more (and double-checked the bulbs) but still no Gen 2 light. I checked voltages again and I'm now getting 14.97...

Thanks Guys! I'll check the bulbs and connections and let you know how it goes....Simple stuff first, right....NOT ME!

    Electrical

Alright, So, I took the pass side alt out (the bolt had sheared off somehow, causing a loose belt), drilled the old bolt out, and put it back in. I charged up both batteries. I cleaned all of the bus terminals and battery terminals. So, I get everything hooked back up and fire it up. I have...
