    Multi's Valve Adjustment.....

I did it alone (as I had no soldier B either) and also used the "big pipe wrench on the intermediate shaft" method. Look out for the grease zerk, and it does get annoying going from under the truck to over the truck repeatedly to get the valves lined up right... Valve cover gaskets can be...

BAD fuel leak. Remove entire maniforld heater system?

The wiring harness for mine is badly frayed so I have simply unplugged it for now. Left the fuel lines connected as I didn't have any compression fitting caps handy, but the power circuit for the ignition transformer and pump can be unplugged easily, believe it is circuit 486, tagged right by...

    some really stupid oiling questions...

Just got my M54A2 (LDS465, etc) home after a drawn out blown head gasket saga and it looks like I have some oiling issues: * the oil filter housings are definitely leaking oil badly. It took me 5 gallons of oil to make it from Mont Vernon NH to Southbridge MA, and I had to keep a very close eye...

    Massachusetts

I'm definitely not making it :( Got the truck home last night :jumpin: BUT it took 5 gallons of oil to make it 75 miles. My oil filter housings are leaking like a sieve because I was in a bad pinch and had to reuse all the gaskets, can't decide if I should try and find a place that has the...

Recovering my truck tonight if all goes as planned... and as it happens, the Bass Pro Shops car show is tomorrow evening in Foxborough. Anyone else planning on going?

    M109A3 30 MPH Bounce

Does the road have expansion joints? The cement highways in Pennsylvania made me feel like I was on the business end of a 10 ton pogo stick on my drive back to Mass in the M54A2. If I stayed at 50mph the rear axles literally bounced, the guy I had following me in my backup vehicle said the...

    Broken Turbo Studs

heat it up red hot and quench it with aerokroil. Repeat several times. Tap on the end with a hammer (the bigger the better.) If this does not break it free, try acetone and ATF, just don't use this to quench it as it is more flammable... If none of this works, pull the manifold and use...

    Weight of the LDT-465 engine

bump... anyone know what the heads alone weigh? I am just curious, no real need for the info, sadly I forgot to weigh mine when I had them off for the gasket job. My guess is 100-150lb each.

    My "new" M54A2

Got my replacement oil filter parts from python86, put it all together. Didn't have a couple torque specs I needed the weekend before last, but dug them up here on SS and went up to finish the job last night! Got everything all set, setting valve lash alone was no fun. Just as I was ready to...

    Fed up with batteries

WOW, never really thought about that very much! I am going to have to build myself a watchdog circuit to warn me if the voltage across the batteries in my M54A2 differs more than a volt or so. Shouldn't be too hard to rig up.

    Vacuum to collect ALT. Fuels

yep, no butterfly throttle valve in a diesel, so no vacuum.

    Vacuum to collect ALT. Fuels

it's probably bad that I recognized the pickup he's got the tank in by the shape of the back of the cab and the back end of the bedside... that's a Comanche! And the lucky SOB has the rare cargo / bed area light option *and* rear slider window! Looks like an '89 or a '90 based on the emissions...

    did i do bad?

don't run without the water pump for very long if at all... or you will certainly end up learning how to do a head gasket job like I did.

    Python86

Sent me exactly what I needed to put new oil filters on my 465 after my dumb butt threw out the pressure plate that goes between the spring and the filter element! Great guy, got me out of a real bind, beer's on me if I'm ever in Maryland!

M817 just arrived joy and pain

I'd suspect a crummy solenoid if it still doesn't work after the battery install has been corrected. Especially if you get a click from the control box / relay but no click from the starter itself.

    Flushing differential before refilling?

Mine came out pitch black... no noticeable chunks, did have some metal flakes in it though. Magnets looked like chia pets. I considered cleaning them out with diesel but wasn't sure if it would harm the seals so I just filled er back up, it's got to be better than it was before at least.

    plow snow with m817 ?

Wow, I grew up over in Haverhill... Been considering putting a plow on my M54A2 when I get it running again, if we have a winter like the last one I definitely will. Hear some people were getting 120/hr from the state to plow highways, even my 5mpg rig can make money at that rate. Amusingly...

piston photos - cracks, chips, etc

diesel and multifuel engines are two different beasts. My impression from reading everything I could about multifuels is the same as Capt. Marion's. The fuel is squirted into the piston head cup and burns from the surface down as the piston descends. This is one of the reasons we get crummy...

    55mph detonation post mortum. . .

For what it is worth, the gasket kit I was sold by TNJMurray had the old style HGs in it... except they were grey with separate fire rings, vents, and tabs instead of pink with separate fire rings, vents, and tabs. I used em because it was all I had on hand, I am hoping they last. They also...

    Welding on a vehicle

As long as you keep your ground clamp reasonably close to where you are welding (within a foot or two, and not straddling any wiring harnesses - i.e. no wiring harness should pass between the clamp and your weld location) there should be no damage to electronics. high-freq TIG welding may be...
