The style 2 starter is more weather resistant than the style 1. The style 1 starters I disassembled have moisture and rust damage to some extent and need to be cleaned or repaired.
Could be anything ignition related. Coil, points, condenser. I would consider the electronic ignition changover. Ive seen them for around $50 on the auction site. Ive done this couple years ago on my mep 016a, but there is little on documentation on doing it. But I got it figured out.
I remember seeing a mustang restoration place on u-tube in the Castle Rock Co. area, just south of you that has quite a few and they specialize in painting them. Might search there.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P43Yngov2rI
I ordered my spring pins from Fastenal. Part # 0165874. Took a week to get them to my local store. Had to order a package of 100. But only cost my $9.64 with shipping and tax. You may be able to order them online but shipping may be more
I acquired an a-5 few months back and in the process of installing new tie wires on the boots because the old ones slipped off and were dripping lots of oil. When I was putting everything back together I used lots of wheel bearing grease on the cv joints. Am I good or should I disassemble, whip...
I Just come in the house from changing these seals. I also changed the seals on the shifter rods. I ordered a tool from a certain auction site. Part # T-1001-J-26401 & J-26282 to help remove and replace the seals. Worked alright but had to chisel the inner seal with a small screwdriver on one...
With the vibrating nature of the mep 002a, it tends to wreck haveck on the gauges. Verify with a seperate volt meter. The main breaker dont have anything to do with the convencence receptle. I believe the last two positions on the voltage selector measure the single phase voltage
Have you tried to adjust the voltage knob. My mep 002a does the same thing. Verified the voltage on the convience plug with a seperate volt meter at 123 volts. Upon close inspection, the trimmer adjustment on the voltmeter cover is broke. Will take it apart sometime and see if I can fix it.
Anything to make the trailer more ridgid would help. Will see about some plywood or maybe some steel or aluminum, as my brother rebuilds rail cars and maybe he could round something up out of the scrap pile. By the way, what is the # for the fuel filter adapters. Are they from fleet filter?
I just received my trailer for my mep 002a from harbor frieght. I paid around $150 for it. Its probably from the same manufacturer as it looks identical as Jimc. But its the next size smaller as its rated for around 900 lbs and has 8in. tires. The dry weight on the 002's name plate says 960 lbs...
So what did you use for the oil filter. Was it the fram K85 adapter plate? What did you use for the 0-ring. The blow by out of the dip stick looks normal. My 003a did the same thing, oil even ran down the filler. Changed the hard cork gasket on the cap with a new one and no more oil seapage.
Thanks for the info. I had a mep 016d with a simular problem. Voltage was high, turning the voltage adjust had no effect. Changed voltage regulator with a known good one, same problem. Pulled the voltage adjustment knob and seen that the sodder was gone on the connection to the wires. Re...
If you just need the dial for your fuel gauge, I ordered a replacement from e-componets. Seams like it was $28 shipped. Good people to work with. http://www.e-components.net/dials.htm
Just read your post Jimc. Good idea on pulling the bearing. The main issue with mine was the control panel was in the way. By the way, You will have a new generator when your done, if you remember where all those parts go. Keep the pics coming.
