I ran a 35 or 40 footer we got from Rizzo up to Mancelona with the deuce to put on our property up there. There were no issues with the tow itself, didn't bother with brakes on the trailer. Towed it up nicely, ran about 190 degrees and 40 mph up over the Zilwaukee bridge, but other than that it...
I went with a mount similiar to this one, just bolted it onto the tailgate of my M1009 on the drivers side. Don't have a decent picture of mine, but you get the idea. Of course, I buzz-bombed mine OD!!
Check starter relay, common failure on these. Too bad about the starter. I've heard of people having them rebuilt instead of paying the long dollar to replace them. However, if you're now all converted over, just buy a new starter and :grd: ! You might also consider just buying a new starter...
If I try to use the velcro straps with my top, my bows jump out of the holes also. I took the fat/lazy approach and just don't use the velcro. Rods stay just fine and top still rests on the bows when loaded with rain/snow.
But...
...back to his original question, how would you get a 24V powered unit operating in a CUCV that has been converted to 12 volts? Like....oh I dunno....powering a 24V radio in my CUCV? I passed on buying a radio from Gasser this weekend because of this issue. How could this be done simply?
I've painted both my trucks with rattle cans from Rapco, not the cheapest route, but I just wanted the proper color on there and am not worried about a "perfect" finish. Ends up about 7 bucks a can, but the color is EXACT.
I'll have to learn a little about those radios Gasser, maybe you can school me some. My CUCV is 12 volt now...so I think I'll have an issue there...
Sure looking forward to it!! :D
On that note, Armada and I are planning on joining the convoy @ the Smithton, PA fueling stop. Looking forward to meeting up with the convoy!! Armada has the military radio set, so he'll try to catch you guys with the military radios when you start up around 0700!
(Wish I had a radio like that...
1. I drive my CUCV almost everyday on a 40 mile round-trip commute. I love driving it, sometimes I pull my M101 trailer along just for fun!!
2. Everytime I visit my brother, I fill up with bio-diesel from a local station that sells it near him. That never has given me any problems in my CUCV...
I'm also wondering...should a dish be brought to said barbeque?
Looking forward to the seeing the site updates and REALLY looking forward to the convoy and meeting a lot of you face-to-face!! :D
What about www.idahomotorpool.com ? They've got a decent 1008 for sale there, and it's right in your neck-of-the-woods. :D
And Westech, I couldn't agree more. Once you're "daily driving" and not having problems, you're sure you can count on it to go the distance. I've been driving my M1009...
Great looking rig!! [thumbzup]
I just went with 33x10.50x15s for my M1009. They kept the stock look, but gave me a little lower rpms @ highway speeds and another inch of ground clearance. And of course, just like you, no trimming of the fenders. :)
