    More fuel pump woes.

So if you've been following my posts in the "What have you done to your CUCV" thread, you probably remember my fuel pump issues I've been having. To recap: I installed a new fuel pump because the old one was leaking. The replacement pump is a Precision brand pump. During the install, I made...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Like I was saying, I had a funnel inserted into the rubber hose going into the fuel pump inlet. I filled it up with fuel, turned it over and it didn't take any of the fuel in. The pump is obviously not pumping. I'll have to pull it off and see if the pushrod isn't installed right, or if the pump...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

The low tonight is 21 degrees. In Tennessee. I'm so over this cold weather crap. There was a time where I enjoyed it. But after spending 10 weeks in Fort Sill in the middle of the winter, my opinion changed a bit. The rest is history. All I ask is for a few more feet of garage, so I can at...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Diagnosing my fuel delivery problem a little more... I still haven't gotten the air out of the system yet. I went and bought a Pittsburg brake bleeder pump from Harbor Freight to suck some air out, but the **** thing is garbage right out of the box. It holds no vacuum at all. I've tried it on...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I made sure the rod was completely recessed up in the block. I used grease to hold it in place. I had to turn the crank a bit also, to get the new pump to fit properly. I'm certain it's not the install. But, I do think that the pump is still bone dry. I have a couple of things I'm gonna try this...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I made another attempt to bleed the fuel system... no luck. Just turning over and over. I cracked the injectors overnight and they are all damp with fuel, but it still won't start. I'm not getting any fuel flow through the filter.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Well, I think it should take me no time to have fuel flow from the drain tube. But I installed the new mechanical pump bone dry, and I suspect that there is still no fuel flowing through the pump. My line of thinking is if I fill the pump with fuel (with said baster or something of the sort)...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

After installing the fuel pump and injector drainback tube, I'm have a helluva time getting the air out of the system. I spent about an hour last night trying to bleed the system. I followed the bleeding procedures according to the TM (the vent plug on top of the fuel filter base), and I have...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

The replacement fuel drainback line just shipped to my door, so now I can put the truck back together this weekend. I'll also be doing trans filter and gasket, glow plugs and fuel filter.

6.2 IP rebuild and with a few pictures

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Are these pumps difficult to rebuild yourself? I'm thinking I'll have to do it in the near future.

    Fuel Pump & Injector Tube

Yes, I had already tightened the pump bolts before discovering the mismatched angles. Lesson learned.

    Fuel Pump & Injector Tube

Will do. I'll fix it when I get home.

    Fuel Pump & Injector Tube

I just replaced my leaky mechanical fuel pump and rubber hose. During the install, I had issues with getting the threaded fitting on the steel IP line to match up to the new pump. So during the install, I loosened up the pump bolts, and also removed the IP line from the bracket at the front of...

    Alternator rebuild

    So what was it?

    Alternator rebuild

Off the top of my head, I believe that's an insulator for one of the posts that protrude externally from the case. But I'm not 100% sure.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Swapped out the mechanical fuel pump last night. I got it bolted up and the rubber line connected, but the steel line has about a 2 to 3-degree difference between the line and the threaded inlet on the pump. The easiest thing I could do would be to gain superhuman strength and attempt to twist...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Also, I ordered an a/t filter kit, fuel filter and glow plugs, all from Rock Auto for under $90. All ACDelco parts too.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Picked up a new mechanical fuel pump and hose today. Need to replace it because it's leaking so bad, it steadily drips fuel while it's running. No bueno That's just one thing on the list of work that needs to be done.
