    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

I coverted the truck back to 24v, simply so I can drive it until I can replace the GPs and redo the mod. I tested all my GPs last night as well, for curiousity. Two on the passenger side are dead as nails, as I suspected from the blowing smoke and skipping on cold starts. One of them looks to...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

My resistor isn't bad. I did the bypass to prevent future glow plug failures.

    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

Because I'm certain they are old and junk already. No point, when I am already planning on changing them. Waiting on payday. Already have. I am aware. As I said, my glow plugs look pretty aged, and are most likely garbage. I can really test them but what's the point? If I had tons of cash...

    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

I know, that's why I went ahead and did the mod, to preserve the remaining good plugs. But now that the system isn't getting the over-voltage it was likely getting before, it's not firing. At least that's my prognosis. Yes. I do that every morning.

    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

I just did the bypass yesterday. I went to start it this morning in this 19-degree weather, and the glow plugs took longer to heat up (which from what I've researched, is normal). The truck would just turn over and over... didn't fire. I cycled the plugs several times, still nothing. Just...

    Rust Report

Do you have pics of said replacement? Possibly pics of the process?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

No, I know I have at least one bad GP on the pass side. It blows smoke on that side and skips a bit for a few seconds when it does start up cold. I'm thinking I may have to convert back to stock so I can still drive it, and do the mod again when I can get a switch. Or possibly wait until I get...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Well, since I did the GP resistor bypass yesterday, I couldn't even get it started this morning (19 degrees). Kept turning over and over, not firing. It does take longer for the GPs to heat up, and I did hear that would happen, but I guess they're just not getting hot enough now? I cycled them...

Change that small coolant hose on your 6.2 liter CUCV engine...

Actually, mine looks swollen too. I should have pulled it off while I was replacing the radiator, but I didn't. Another thing to add to the list.

    Rust Report

Yup... I went out earlier tonight and snapped pics of the bad rust infestations on my CUCV. I'm not entirely sure of this particular truck's history, but I'm guessing it migrated from the north. I intend on repairing these the best I can (I'm a metalworker/welder by trade), but my areas of...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Today, I finally did the resistor bypass mod, checked the air in the tires, and attached my skull n' crossbones plate to the front. So now I'm a badass. EDIT: Oh, and I cleaned out underneath the intake manifold. Apparently a critter of some sort made it their home for who knows how long. It...

    Electric fuel pump question

Hmm... haven't entertained the idea of an electric pump as a mechanical pump primer/backup. Does it install right in the tank like a stock Chevy or are you guys talking about an in-line?

Best Thing You've Found in Your CUCV

I don't know how many times my M1009 has changed hands, but I know it's been at least twice before I got it. With that said, mine didn't come with crap. No spare, no jack, nothing. Just some extra Rotella, ATF, a padlock with keys, other mysterious padlock keys, one extra slightly used glow...

    M1009 Ready for Deployment

Awesome! Nice to see they are still in service after all these years. I guess the same goes for the good ol' M2.

    My first MV

+1. There are also a few mods which have been basically deemed as necessary, by the general population of SS. Do your research and learn everything you can about your truck. Download the TMs also - they are essential! Between those and this place, you will learn everything you ever want to know...

should I remove/bypass the GP resistor with Wellman 070s?

Yep. I'll do the resistor bypass now, and in the near future I'll order a set of AC60s. I'm not gonna sweat one GP being bad. The beauty of a diesel.

should I remove/bypass the GP resistor with Wellman 070s?

I know I have at least one bad GP on the passenger side. Every morning it blows smoke out that side on a cold start, and it skips a bit for a few seconds. So I need to do this bypass like yesterday. Tomorrow I'm doing it, among other things.

should I remove/bypass the GP resistor with Wellman 070s?

It seems the most logical place to get the 12 volts, since it's already in the perfect spot.

    M1009 wont start

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, still.
