    turbo build.

Crossover pipe connects drivers side exhaust manifold to the bottom part of the drivers one. You'll need to fabricate one to fit properly because the drivers side exhaust from the 6.5 turbo setup hits the frame (or so I'm told, I haven't gotten that far yet) so you just keep the regular exhaust...

    turbo build.

The GM-1 through GM-3 turbos used a simple spring for the wastegate control. Those can be modified to be adjustable (see writeup elsewhere on this site) with a nut. The later GM turbos used vacuum to open the wastegate but those could be modified like the others. Those were borg werner of some...

    M1008 Gearing or Transmisson

Then maybe you can use the original adapter behind the TH400? I'm not sure which year but at some point GM made the bellhousing+tranny+adapter all the same length across the different options. When I did my conversion I took the longer adapter and bellhousing from a chevy gasser and it went...

Quick Q on harmonic balancer woodruff

Thanks! The new balancer came with a new key and the manual said to replace it so I did. I just didn't know if my "new" woodruff key is now bad because I put a balancer back overtop of it.

    M1008 Gearing or Transmisson

You could try a ranger overdrive and 4 speed. http://www.advanceadapters.com/tech-vault/ranger-overdrive/ The ranger OD is half the price of the GV unit and muncie 4-speeds are real cheap used (paid $50 for mine off craigslist). You may be able to find a corresponding T-case adapter to keep...

Quick Q on harmonic balancer woodruff

I just changed my harmonic balancer and getting ready to tackle timing chain and waterpump... I just looked up those parts of the manual and see I have to take the balancer back off:doh: Do I need to replace the woodruff again like it was a stretch bolt or crush washer? Engine hasn't been...

Question for those that have done a turbo mod

I read somewhere that one must be careful when changing injectors: their pop-open pressure has to match the IP. I believe I also read that the 6.5 and 6.2 IPs are fairly close but the civy trucks had several IPs available and I don't know if they differ between the heavy duty and standard IPs...

Question for those that have done a turbo mod

I decided to pull the entire front as one piece since I am doing the harmonic balancer and timing chain at the same time. Looks like it's doable without removing the radiator but I pulled mine anyway to see what the rust situation on the radiator support looks like. Good thing too, it looks...

    Bikini on a CUCV

Somewhere I had pics of two scantily clad chicks wrestling and posing on the hood of a CUCV. Think the IT guy at work removed them. Would have been perfect here! Also interested in seeing what this project is about. After taking the cap off my '09 the wife finally upgraded her opinon of my...

Question for those that have done a turbo mod

So I just got a 6.5TD setup from a guy parting out his pickup. Looking a bit closer at my M1009 and it looks like it's going to be a tight fit between the manifolds and the frame on the passenger side. So for those that have performed this before: would it be easier to pull the whole engine...

    welder choice...

For what it's worth: Lots of good videos you can rent via snail-mail here https://smartflix.com/store/category/27/Welding I started learning with a simple O/A torch. Easy to get started and it's a slow process so you can see what's going on. Plus you can cut with it. Also lots of good...

    welder choice...

I bought one of those dirt cheap HF welders just to get an arc machine. What I didn't realize until I got it home: It's not even DC! It's just a transformer and wire feeder inside so you get AC at the gun. Additionally, the button only feeds the wire so the tip is always energized. It will...

    carc paint question

Isn't that pretty cheap for an auto paint? I think I ended up paying nearly that for some dupont industrial coating that isn't really holding up two years on.

    Charging and Starting Electrical Issues

You shouldn't see anything on the exciters with the ignition off. Shouldn't see 24V across the pigtails on Gen 2 pigtails either. Gen 2 pigtails should be +12V between the two or +24 and +12 compared to the chasis. Speaking of chasis, is your Gen 2 connected to vehicle ground? It shouldn't...

    Alternator rebuild Q

The pig-tails should excite the rotor and create an output voltage when spinning right? I tested the power leads with a volt meter, engine running and pigtails connected, to see if it was generating anything before I connected it in with the rest of the truck just to be safe. I guess I should...

    Alternator rebuild Q

Why would there be no voltage and the "GEN 1" warning light be dimmy lit? I rebuilt my alternator using all new parts I ordered from CUCV Electric a while back. I didn't both testing the old stuff, I just changed everything. Yes, I removed the little grenade pin from the brusholder after it...

1985 m1010 fuel filter housing leak

for what its worth, I fixed my leaking filter by removing the water sensor in the housing. Used a screw and some RTV to plug the hole.

M1009 - upgrade to 1 ton needed for?

Low gearing like the granny gear in a SM465? I put one of those in when my TH400 died and the low gear on that thing is insane compared to the original slushbox. Bleh, maybe it would have been easier to just buy a M1008 and find a bed cap.
