Before I start, I realize that the TH400 is a bullet proof transmission and works just fine in the M1009. I was wondering has anyone made or heard of someone making the switch to a four speed manual. How'd it work out?
Hey guys I got a 1984 M1009. I'm going to replace my thermostat tommorow. I was wondering how much you want to torque the two bolts that hold the housing together. I checked the technical manual, but saw nothing about the torque.
Thanks.
Hey guys, I have a 1984 M1009. Just a little while ago my speedometer stopped working and I figured out that it was the speedo( the little part inbetween the transmission and the speedometer cable) that was the problem. It seemed that the female end where the speedometer cable feeds in stripped...
What I meant was when I turned the key the starter engaged, however the engine did not start. It seemed to not be getting fuel. I use the tech manuals but I admit I couldn't find in them how to put in the fuel filter so I just put it on, which I'm pretty sure was wrong and stupid.
Well I cleaned all or the connections and did the doghead relay modification. Low and behold the ignition seemed to work, however the engine didn't turn over. I'm hoping thats just because the fuel gauge is wrong and theres not enough in there to start or the new fuel filter I slapped in while I...
Wont Start (still)
Well my 1984 M1009 made it through its first year with no problems, but the streak ended today. The other day I was starting the truck and when I turned the key I heard a strange grinding noise with the starter but it started fine and I ignored it. Today I tried starting it...

I have a 1984 M1009. Ive been thinking about picking up a soft top for it to use during the summer, as the hard top is a little too heavy for me to be putting on and taking off everyday. The only ones I can find are $800, which I can't justify paying. Anyone know about cheaper brand or option?
My speedometer stopped working a while ago on my 1984 M1009 and I finnally got a around to taking a look at whats wrong. I noticed that the "part" that bolts on to the Trans and connects to the speedometer cable is stripped. I want to replace it, but I can't figure out the name. It's the little...
Hey guys I've had my 1984 M1009 for about a half a year now, I've changed all my fluids except for the transmission fluid. I have no clue when the last time it was changed. It seems to still be good, it is still pink and hasn't gotten that rotting smell yet. I've heard that if the fluid wasn't...
Midway taking my M1009 on an 8 hour trip to Missouri my gauges failed. Now they only work for the first few minutes when I turn on the car, then they clunk out. Any clue what could be going on?
I took my M1009 with me to college in Columbia Missouri. It hasn't experienced a winter with snow yet and has very little rust. I'm very concerned that it will rust out. I have the option of keeping it in a parking garage or a parking lot which is paved and covered in gravel. Should I go with...
Hey just figured out that the fluid in my rear differential is leaking. I've been reading posts and the manual for about an hour now. People keep saying different things. Some say that the oil needs to be 80/90 others say it needs to be 90/75. Also some say I need to add the posi addictive in...
