    Body mount bushing install questions.

Tomorrow I plan on installing a set of urethane body mount bushings. I have loosened the existing bushings on one side, and removed the fastners for the bushings on the other, and am ready to jack that side up, then repeat on the other side to do the install. I removed the linkage from the...

No upshift troubleshooting advice and the 34TM procedure.

My M1009 has lost the ability to upshift. I have done the following, given the info within the threads I have found here, as well as the procedures described in table 2-1, #56 in the 34TM. My fluid level is in the crosshatch area on the dipstick. I see a steady 25(in/Hg) at my vacuum pump, and...

Bang when turning too sharply in 4WD

I believe I inadvertently did something stupid. Once in a while, I will put my m1009 in 4WD, and take it around the block just to keep the juices flowing. I intended to three point turn at the end of my street. I then turned very sharply to the left, and entered a really sharp turning radius...

Has anyone ever installed energy suspension body bushings?

Will I need to disconnect that flexible portion of the steering column, or anything else? I was planning on removing the transfer case shift/boot indicator to allow some room for movement, as well as the linkage at the steering column to my transmission.

Has anyone ever installed energy suspension body bushings?

I understand that one of the major pitfalls in replacing body bushings on an m1009 is rust seizing up the body mount bolts, causing all kinds of problems in removing them. I have sprayed all mine with deep creep, and was able to carefully loosen them with no problem. No really significant rust...

    Rear driveshaft counterweight location question.

The U joints are both Moog/Precision 534G. It was strange though. I researched the project before doing it. I studied up on the torch technique, decided it looked simple, and went for it. The plastic cooked out easily with a propane torch. No problem. The existing u joints did have the clips...

    Rear driveshaft counterweight location question.

I noticed some play in my rear u-joint on my m1009, So I got a couple new ones along with a new transfer case output seal. Im about to press the u joints back in, then realized I had not marked the driveshaft for reinstallation. I noticed the driveshaft has a couple counterweights tac...

Need some direction on locating drivetrain clunking sound,

Today after having driven about 10 miles, I noticed a knocking sound coming from the transmission tunnel. This only happened coming off the line, and when in motion. My transmission had failed to shift out of first gear last week. I got it home to find it about an entire quart low on fluid. I...

I need help to I.D. this weird leak.

I found it. I just got home and everything had dried up, so I knew for sure it was coolant. I cleaned all the suspect areas and let it idle. It took awhile, but sure enough, right at that little plate containing the temp sensor I saw steam rising. The fluid is coming from there. That being said...

I need help to I.D. this weird leak.

Ive been doing some reading, and it seems as though a blown head gasket is more likely to blow out internally, mixing oil and coolant or vice versa. I dont see any evidence of that. Is it uncommon for a head gasket to blow out where the coolant is able to escape the head, rather than leaking inside?

I need help to I.D. this weird leak.

The cat pee tasted the same as whats in my radiator. I fired it up to see if I might find the leak at pressure. I think Ive blown a head gasket (or both) just a very slight bubble right at the back of the head. I don't see anything in my oil or radiator. Ive never done a head gasket before. It...

I need help to I.D. this weird leak.

I woke up this morning to find a puddle of very clear (Yellowish) fluid under my m1009. Judging by its color, it seems like unused motor oil. As I looked closer, I began to think maybe I had a leaky brake line, but dont see any obvoius leaks thereabouts. As I looked for the source, I thought it...

starter wiring question. Solenoid function questions.

Here was my own trial and error process: I purchased the first gear reduction starter from DB Automotive on ebay. I installed it (correctly) and it lasted maybe five cranks. Returned it, got a new one. That one lasted about 1/2 of a crank. I ended up getting my money back for both, and purchased...

starter wiring question. Solenoid function questions.

So I went and bought one of those chinese gear reduction starters to hold me over until I can find time to rebuild my 27mt. I took out my existing starter, which has really begun to rattle hard after every start. I put in the chinese gear reduction, with the correct bracket, and it fired right...

Just picked this up cheap on fleabay, hoping it might help on my next task. I havent the slightest idea how one goes about using it. Anyone have any expereince with this thing?

    axle shaft questions.

I found the process in tm 9-2320-289-34 figure 6-5. During reassembly, the tm describes the use of a bearing preload gauge, bearing strap tool, prussian dye and a feeler gauge to assemble the differential properly and in spec. This is uncharted territory to me, but thats good, I love learning...

    axle shaft questions.

Got it. Thank You for your patience steve6x6x6. Ive had my m1009 sitting for about a month as I have been working crazy hrs. I never would have probably noticed the leak as quickly otherwise. Ill get after it.

    axle shaft questions.

Forgive me if I sound confused, but what exactly do I need to pull down? Once I get that far, doesnt the axle shaft slide out? I see in the tm where removing those bearing covers is explained. Does removing that cover then free the axle shaft?

    axle shaft questions.

Got it, Thank You. Is that seal accessable by opening the diff cover then? Can I just pull out the axle shaft, open the diff. cover and put in a new one,

    axle shaft questions.

I have some gear oil leaking from my passenger side front axle, on the axle side between the axle shaft and the u joint connecting to the spindle. I have only researched this in the tms, and never tore one apart(yet). The diagrams dont show a seal fitting around the axle shaft, although I am...
